Anti Virus Cannot Detect My Virus! Ug!
Hey Guys,
My norton 2003, and other online anti virus detection programs can't get a hold of this trogan I seem to have. I have tried to see if it is windows registry, I ran Norton Utilities 02, not that. Disk fragmentation? Nope, I ran Disk Keeper. Diskdoctor shows up with nothing out of the ordanary. Could it just be me? Could anyone suggest something to get myself out of this sticky bit of a wicket. Thanks |

try that progrram designed specifically to remove trojans. it worked on me. i had sub7 installed (on purpose) so me and a friend could mess w/ it, and none of the virus scans could detect the trojan. |
are your definitions updated?
How do you know you have a virus? What are the symptoms?
I am not certain if I do have a trojan. Originally, I thought my registry was shit. But, Norton Utilites find nothing wrong with it. The symptoms is that faithful blue screen with the VXD warning ( something close to that). I also recieve troubles with most apps, freezing, and glitches constantly form. Mostly with msn, and explorer.

sounds like typical windows to me ;) Seriously, have you gone through standard troubleshooting procedures? things like defragging your HDD? have you tried adaware and spybot? are you fully patched and updated? can you write down the BSOD message for us, please?
I've defrag, I use ad-aware 6, and I have all patches and what not. And the next time that festering blue screen come up again, I'll keep ya posted.
just a heads-up, remember that the primary purpose of defragmenting your HDD is to speed up access times. it won't necessarily fix any problems, and could make things much worse so be careful! ;)
defragging is not always a good thing, and it can mess things up completely if you have undetected disk errors -- always run CHKDSK /R or SCANDISK first, and then maybe run DXDIAG and post the info pertaining to your OS and system specs so we can try to help further. good luck! p.s. I believe Spybot detects the most common trojans, highly recommended program in any case. |
That would be an excellent idea. My computer likes to freeze when I run those operations.
sorry, I ment only scandisk, CHKDSK /R has a parse 3 error, (what I could remember). Scandisk also likes to restart, I close all apps because it tell me my drive is contantly changing. I dunno why since I am not even touching my mouse.
Tros - what's the specs on your box?
tros: take it off the net before you run scandisk. AIM used to make it twitch for me.
You could try http://housecall.antivirus.com
It's good if the virus disabled or otherwise messed with your currently installed AV program. The last time I checked, SwatIt was the best programs for getting trojans. I don't know the website offhand but a google search should yield an answer. |
If any of the virus protection programs really worked they would detect windows and delete it.
