Vista 64 bit Ultra
Please Help: I am trying to learn Vista on my new computer. I still have my 9 year old Windows 98 machine running, which I am using now. My question is how do I find "Temporary Internet Files" in Vista. Now I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box so please dummy it down for me.
Thanks Modo |

C:\Users\<user-name-here>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
is the default location, I can't get any more dumbed down than that. What are you looking for it for? If you want to delete it there are simpler ways. |

Just a couple of short cuts I via directions from my future son-in-law. Thanks for the answer. Modo ---------- Post added at 04:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:07 PM ---------- I've followed that string and don't get a temporary files folder to open. Just short cuts to temporary files my future son-in-law made to my desktop. Thanks for the answer though. Modo |

Windows Vista, hmm how odd that path should work, it works fine for me.
C:\Users\<user-name-here>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files where you replace <user-name-here> with the login name you use on vista so if your user name for windows on your computer is Modo then it'd be C:\Users\Modo\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files depending on where your entering this you may need quotes around it so "C:\Users\Modo\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files" Otherwise you can find the location on your computer by going to start menu -> control panel -> network and internet -> internet options -> under the browsing history section click settings....there you'll find a section for your temporary internet files. |

Do a search inside your Users directory (of which there might be two, one on a different drive), check Include Hidden and System Files before searching, and search for .flv in order to find those files if they are still in your cache. With a small cache size, they might be immediately deleted after you navigate away from the page. Also, there is a Temporary Internet Files folder in the Windows directory that you can quickly look in, but I don't think much is stored there.
If you choose to switch to Firefox, there is an add-on called Video DownloadHelper (aka dwhelper) that grabs FLV and other media files off any page. Don't use their conversion service though, try FormatFactory which is free. P.S. It's named Vista Ultimate. Last edited by tcp; 06-19-2009 at 02:50 PM.. |

phamtc: Thanks for the information. I have hidden and system files checked in folder options. I can follow until I get to "Temporary Internet Files" which isn't there. I do use Firefox but I didn't know about the ad-on. Is it on the Firefox site? I'll google "FormatFactory. Going from Windows 98 to Vista is driving me out of my mind. My wife's XP seems easier to poke around in.
Thanks to both of you... Modo |
