worldwide cellphone
I've been looking for a cellphone that I'll be able to use around the world. I have been moving to a different country every six months to a year. So, I'd like to get a cellphone that works in places like Europe, Asia (Japan and Thailand), and the USA while it is able to take advantage of the technology in the area that I just so happen to be around. I don't care about the plan, I just want to keep my phone. Anyone know how this might work? Suggestions or ideas are much appreciated!

Any GSM phone (tri band is better) should serve you in the vast majority of situations. That said, there are still some places in the US and Japan where you will need CDMA.

Get a quad band GSM phone and you'll be set for most of the world.

I don't think Japan is compatible with other standards. I'm sure someone here will be able to help.

I bought my GF a Blackberry 8830 it is a "World Phone" it does both CDMA and GSM but I hear you have to call Sprint and let them know you plan to be overseas for the GSM side to actually work.
So even if you do get one that will work make sure you contact your carrier and let them know so you can get it working correctly. |
