"Safely Remove Hardware" Icon Gone in XP, WTF?
1 Attachment(s)
Is your computer being a real flake lately? It sure is. Do you have removable devices plugged into USB ports? I sure do. Is there something missing from your XP task bar? You betcha. Do you need to remove those devices but can't seem to figure out how to remove them safely? How did you know?! I am not a mind reader. No. Today's problem is: the Safely Remove Hardware Icon is missing from my task bar!
I found this guide here- from Ask Leo: "Safely Remove Hardware: where did the icon go? How do I safely remove hardware without it?" And guess what, it worked great! UPDATE: I actually finished reading the article posted here and discovered: he tells you how to make an icon too... I went a step further for you all and made you this icon and attached it in the zip archive. Here is how I made my link click to show Useful? |
I go out of my way to make sure this icon is NOT on my taskbar.

Yeah, some hard drives (Raptors especially) have that icon there even though you're not gonna detach the internal HDD in your PC. It gets really annoying. I'm pretty picky about my taskbar though (I keep it minimalistic).
Plus I just rip a thumb drive out of the PC anyway. If the LED isn't blinking then it's not being used. No reason to click to get it out!!!! |
I am paranoid and have corrupted files on my flash drive even when it wasn't blinking. Besides it takes, what, an extra 4 seconds?
