Another mac Question
Another step in my attempt to minimize the damage from my HD loss....Does anyone know how to reverse sync my contacts list from my .mac account to my dashboard contacts? I've sent the question to Apple via email and they have yet to respond

Are you talking about the Address Book application?
Is it not working to sign in to .mac using the system preferences pane and then sync? Tell it to merge the data if it asks. If you can be more specific I'll look some stuff up for you.

Sync
My address book on my laptop has been wiped clean. However, my contacts are still viewable from w/in my .mac account. If I attempt to sync, will my .mac account sync with an empty address book or can I go the other way as well? Thank you for the assistance.

Go to System Preferences and select the .mac icon.
Enter your user name and password. Then go to the Sync tab. Enable syncing, and wait for .mac to register your computer. When it does, check off "contacts". Then sync. It will give you 3 choices, replace data on computer, replace data on .mac, or merge data. Choose the 1st or 3rd, depending on whether you've entered contacts into the address book since the crash. Let me know if you have any issues with this.

I need a ghetto mac so I can learn how to use one.
strange cuz I get a shitton of support calls at work from mac users who have broken something or get stupid errors. you know it's very troublesome to troubleshoot someone on a mac who has a subnet set up manually and cannot even connect to his modem with a direct cable because it's all buggered up internally due to his IP assignment. I figured it out but god, that was a half hour long call that didn't need to be. You know, i wonder, how the hell can you be computer literate enough to be hosting a web site internally through a subnet of manual configurations yet you need to call me to figure out why you can't connect to a modem at 192.168 addresses on a 255.255.255.0 subnet. |

Volman -- I'm glad it worked out.
Shauk: you should pick up a G4 powerbook from ebay. That's still a capable machine, and you could learn the OS pretty quickly. The Peachpit Press books are also really good.
