Disassembling a laptop :/
I've half done this before with limited success, but this time I have a treat on my hands.
The laptop in question is a Toshiba Satellite P25-S607 media center edition laptop. It is mine for free. The problem appears to be as though the power connector on the back end of the computer is broken - if you put the cord in and let go, it sags severely and the entire connector tilts down. I think if I can somehow get into this and resolder the power port, I'll be set. The problem is, I can't get in there for the life of me! I can't find a dissasembly manual either. Any advice? |

use a digital camera and document every screw you take out, if you do is slowly and carefully you can take it apart.

Word to that. Looks like only 2 screws came up homeless Man that word is depressing.
Turns out my problem is within the power plug, so opening the laptop was useless. I think the only solution is to fill the inside of the male end with solder.. |

Buy a mathing female connector from Radio Shack (or whoever) and solder it onto a wire. Open the lappy and solder the other end of the wire to the circuit board where the missing component would have been.
Close the lappy. Enjoy.

Kinda late but here's a takeapart for that model:
http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptop...lliteP25_1.htm As for the connector, I'd probably go with Daniel's suggestion of just finding whatever connector pair and patching them in. Radio shack has quite a few surface mount females I'm sure you could make work. Good find, by the way!

Thanks a lot guys I brought it to a teacher of mine, who is much more mechanically apt then myself, and he took it a little farther than I could. He thought the best option was to solder the wire directly to the board, and after a bit of fun, that works.
Only problem I have now is, the left click button is flaky, and the kicker is - it won't boot to the CD drive until after I have booted to the hard drive, a fact I did not know until after I deleted the partition. Well, I think it's safe to say that someone above really, really hates this laptop. |
