The example program you posted a link to was created using Flash. All the features that you need in your program can be accomplished using Flash, and you can create a standalone app or put it on a website in the end.
If you have never used Flash before, it will probably take a while for you get used to the interface. As far as programming is concerned, you would be using ActionScript, Flash's scripting language. My suggestion would be to take a trip to a bookstore and take a look at the Flash/ActionScript books. It's likely that one of them will have an example similar to what you would like to accomplish with your program, and you could just build on top of that for your project. Hope that helps. |

if you must do it standalone, flash would be the easiest one. you can do it in any language, but the effort required would be large.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will follow your ideas and go with flash/actionscript. The only other question I have is what software program to use. I have looked at different versions of flash and found them to be rather expensive for a one time job. Do you guys know of any good stripped down programs which would allow me to create flash based apps?

Adobe Flash is the name of the actual program used to create flash applications.
This page lists Flash Professional 8 for $249 for an academic license. Check to see if you are eligible for that, as that's a pretty good deal (down from $699).

I wouldn't buy it, if you only need it for this one project. I would suggest either working with the 30-day trial of flash, or perhaps having someone else who does know flash, creating the quiz for you.
Either way, you'll save. However, if you plan on doing more projects down the line, or dabbling in web design, it's worth every penny. |

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am presenting my ideas regarding this tomorrow and look forward to the reaction I will get. I am still a bit intimidated by the thought of programming this but I am optimistic that with online help and a book or two I can write this before the Flash trial ends. If not, I may have to request a copy from the university. Either way, you guys have been very helpful.
Thanks, Z |
