Computer Graphic Video Software for Mac?!
I was one of the Mac people who bragged that Star Wars Episode 1 was made entirely on Macs. I have no idea where I heard that, but no one ever disputed it. Now that I think about it, I have no idea if it's true or not. I apologize to those that I might have accedentally lied to. Getting on to my piont...
What software is available for Macs that can produce cgi that is of the same quality found in mainstream hollywood movies? Is Mac still in the game? If I were thinking about creating a high quality set of videos that were comparable to movies like Star Trek, Superman Returns, and such(I don't expect it to be as good as Star Wars 3 or anything), what program could I use? What would be the system requirements? Are we still talking about a room of towers with fans? Edit: NM, found it. Maya from Autodesk is the software I was looking for. Damn expensive at $6999, but worth it for up and coming telivision and film people. |
Most, if not all, of the major studios run their software on Linux these days. If they do use Macs, it's usually for programs that are only available on Macs like Shake for 2D/3D compositing and Final Cut Pro for real-time editing.
