Agree or disagree?

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?:
"All Kevin Garnett needs to reach the greatness of Michael Jordan are some championship rings."

I agree.

Disagree. Garnett is great. I have watched him play at Staples a couple times, including game 6 of the western conference championship which the wolves lost. He's a great player but he cannot carry the entire team on his back like Jordan, Bird, Magic or Shaq.

No the next Michael or Dr. J or Oscar Robertson, or Larry Bird is Lebron James. End of discussion.

I would have to disagree for the same reason as Mobo.

Man, thats a real good question.

I disagree.

Michael Jordan's level includes proffesional (scoring titles, leauge MVP's, championships, etc.) and sport-transcending accomplishments that I don't think Garnett will reach.

As a basketball player though, I think Garnett will join Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Abdul-Jabbar, Russell, West, Robertson, Cousy and a few others as the greatest players to ever play. Out of these players, it is unfair and impossible to say exactly who is the best.

Ummmm, I think we're comparing apples and oranges here. Jordan defined an era in basketball and in marketing. KG has defined nothing but a solid NBA career.

If Garnett won 6 Titles and managed to get his skinny mug on a plethora of marketing objects (i.e. underwear, trendy sports drinks, hot dogs, etc), then we may start talking about MJ and KG in a comparison.

Jordan transcended sport and was, and still is, known world-wide. KG is lucky to be known by everyone in the Twin cities.

Disagree! he needs a new team first. fuck the timberwolfs are 4-3. plus, sorry to say no one can hold a candle to MJ's greatness. i have to say that he is one of the greatest NBA players out there.

Disagree. Kevin Garnett is one of the best players in the league currently, and one could argue that he is, in fact, THE best. But that is a far cry from being the undisputed best players in the league or the one of the top couple of players ever.

He would definitely have to carry his team to a few championships and be the top player in the league for a few more years to get close to MJ status...

Agree and disagree. If he won some championships (3 or 4 at least) then he will have proved that he can carry a team (which is what most of you on here says he hasn't done yet).

But he also needs to maintain his high level of play. Being a passenger on a championship team won't guarantee him greatness.

His overall, all-round level of play is remarkable though. ESPN showed a stat about the first 6 games of the season, where he led the T-Wolves in points, rebounds and assists in every one of those games (actually, I think Cassell led them in assists for one of them).

Disagree. That might get him on to the All-Time All-NBA team, but it won't move him to #1.

KG is an amazing player, but he just doesn't seem to have that magic that MJ had, there was just something about special about Michael Jordan that won't be matched for a very long time in my opinion. I agree that LeBron could possibly do it, that kid has suprized me for he has exceeded my expectations already, but i don't know if he has what it takes to stand his own next to MJ.

Agree, by definition.

If KG can carry his team to 5 or 6 rings, that would be a phenomenal achievement, and would put him with the likes of Jordan, no doubt about it. Probably even bigger than Jordan. KG is a charismatic guy, like Mike was. Extremely marketable, like Mike was. The thing is, KG will be lucky to get 1 ring, never mind 5 or 6.

MJ was a phenom. He just understood the game on a fundamental level more than 98% of the people that ever touch a basketball. Garnett displays incredible athletic ability, but I don't think his mind has trancended to basketball nirvana the way MJ's did. Not yet anyway.
