Pride Grand Prix Finals 2003 *Mad Spoilers*
Okay, I know (and you should) know that Wanderlei Silva is going to take it. I've made a little poll for who thinks who will win.
You've got four choices as to who is going to win 1) Wanderlei "V-Diddy" Silva Name Wanderlei Silva Nick Name The Axe Murderer Record 22 - 3 - 1 Association Chute Boxe Height 5'11 / 180.34 cm Weight 199 lbs / 90 kg Style Muay Thai Birth Date 7/3/1976 City Curitiba Country Brazil 2) Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Name Quinton Jackson Nick Name Rampage Record 18 - 3 - 0 Association Team Oyama Height 6'1 / 185.42 cm Weight 205 lbs / 93 kg Style Wrestling Birth Date 6/20/1978 City Memphis State Tennessee Country USA 3) Chuck "the Iceman" Liddell Name Chuck Liddell Nick Name Iceman Record 12 - 2 - 0 Association Pitfight Team Height 6'2 / 187.96 cm Weight 204 lbs / 93 kg Style Kickboxing Birth Date 12/17/69 City San Luis Obispo State California Country USA 4) Hidehiko Yoshida Name Hidehiko Yoshida Record 3 - 0 - 0 Height 5'11 / 180.34 cm Weight 220 lbs / 100 kg Style Judo Birth Date 9/3/1969 Country Japan Last edited by Astrocloud; 11-09-2003 at 12:48 PM.. |

I'm going with Silva over Jackson in the final match. Yoshida stands no chance against Silva but Liddell could just as easily be fighting in the finals. I'm giving Rampage the nod because if it goes to a decision I doubt the PRIDE judges will go against him (as lame that is). Also, don't forget that Mirko and Nog are fighting! It's clash of the best heavyweight fighters of polar opposite styles. Barring any injuries, I'm dying to see the winner fight Fedor Emelianenko at the next event.

Yeah, it has everything to do with Chuck being from the UFC and Rampage being a darling of PRIDE. UFC President Dana White has even put a significant amount of money on Liddell so I can only guess that Takada would want to stick it to him. You're right though, whoever wins will be nice and softened up for Silva to finish.
The fight I really don't want to see is Sakuraba-Randleman. I'm almost certain that DSE and PRIDE are trying to kill Saku. He loses to Schembri, then they feed him to Silva three times! He should go over to the UFC as soon as possible and fight guys his own size. Nobody wants to see an MMA legend horribly brain damaged. |

Yeah, you called it too with Rampage over Liddell... I'm watching the fight tonight ppv.
The Rampage-Silva match is significant because there is (supposedly) some bad blood between them. Here is what Rampage said after Pride 25: Quote:

The big Suprise for the evening is Yoshida... I think he did better than Jackson against Wanderlei. I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch between Silva.
Surprisingly Silva had him in a triangle in the first round, and Yoshida seemed to have lost his mind in the second... But I thought he gave a very good effort in that first round. If he gets his shit together -we might see Judo dominate in MMA! more later... |

Yoshida definitely showed that he's not just a Japanese shoe-in. After that pathetic smother "submission" on Royce Gracie it was easy to question his credibility. When Judo is done well, it is really a beautiful thing to watch. Karo Parisyan in UFC 44 was a good example of Judo being effective.
How about Sakuraba too!? I'm happy for him, especially beating roid monster Randleman. Mirko finally felt his first loss which should be good for him. I know he's pissed off and is going to be training BJJ to death. Fedor looked happy about the result though. He's a maniac with that ground and pound and I think he'll be on top of the HW division for awhile. |

It was a great event! I was really disappointed in Randleman as I think he could have finished Saku quite easily. Strange really. Good for Sak tho as he needed a win. I wasn't too surprised by Yoshida's performance as so many were just writing him off. I was however surprised by how quickly Henderson was able to finish off Bustamante. An impressive win for sure. Was anyone else shocked that Jackson was not totally knocked out after that knee assault? Wow!
