TFP Fantasy Football 2010
Hey all (again)
This is the returning champion from both TFP-specific leagues from last season, and I didn't just start this message to remind you of this, but to give notice that I've gone ahead and restarted both leagues from last year, most scoring settings intact, and I'm just wondering who else might be interested in joining up again for some fantasy football fun. Either/or would be fine, entry into both would be simply divine. Quick synopsis: "Tilted Time" will be a 10-team league, (if we get enough interest, perhaps a bum up to 12 could be warranted) regular scoring setting, half-point per reception (0.5) , as well as incentives for individual players who eclipse the 100, 300 yard marks in rushing/recieving/passing. Pretty straighforward "TFP FF" is looking to become a 16-team, divisional-tiered league where PPR-scoring is acknowledged, return men are given just a bit more recognition for their duties, kickers are abolished for their randomness/inanity to the points contributed, the team defense points are more "equalized" towards overall outcome and performance, and introducing, there will be an additional 3 roster spots included to showcase and slot Individual Defensive Players (IDP) - 1 defensive back, a defensive lineman, and 1 linebacker. It's not too convoluted, but you may want to look over exactly how and where all points come from, just to familiarize yourself with the NFL landscape. Also, fractional scoring is a go. Interested?

Oh. Sorry for being a negligent host.
Um. Do you guys need invites? I sent them out through the league last weekend, (using the e-mails we used last season) but perhaps you didn't get them. djtestudo, crewsor: would you like an invite for one, both? - - - Also, chip in your thoughts about what scoring you like, what positions you dislike (kickers) , what players you feel high on, down on, and when an online live draft is most preferrable and accomodating to your schedule. "TFP FF" - currently has no draft date set, but it is open to discussion; also open for discussion: whether it be a traditional snake format, or the intriguing auction format, as well as weighing waivers as being first come, first serve, or would you like to try FAAB (free agent acquisition budget)? Tilted Time '10 - I believe the draft date is set for Sun, Sept. 5, sometime during Primetime, and it's basically the same setings as last year. (just substituted 1 ppr for a half-point, while reducing 20 yds rushing/receiving gained per point to the more traditional 10. There's also incentives for century performers as well as 300-yd passers.)

My email is hidden, so would that have been it?
I would like both invites, though, please.

This is quite a better turn-out for the first week than I was expecting - 5 teams for the custom league we experimented with from last season, and 4 teams for the more "traditional"-Tilted Time format (+ PPR).
I'm sure I might not be feeling the same way in a few weeks' time when perhaps both leagues are hovering around 6-7 members each, but that's just me being pessimistic, I guess. For now, though, I'm hopeful. Thoughts on a draft date for TFP FF? Anyone opposed to it being on a weekday afternoon-evening the week of NFL kickoff (Mon-Wed before Sept. 9)? Also, does anyone feel strongly one way or another towards trying an auction draft, or does this seem too radical for a fledgling league?

a small-time bump for anyone mebers still interested in joining the league, either one or both.
I can't say for certain, but it does seem as though both leagues, with their differing rules and stipulations, still might end up with the same number of overall teams, that being around 8 or 10 (both are currently hovering with 7 teams involved in each). It's up to you if you'd like to join the party, but it is quite fun, even if you are losing most weeks (like I was in my first few seasons trying to learn what works and what doesn't). Oh, yeah. Reminder: both leagues will be drafting over the Labor Day weekend (Sunday) into the weekday (Tuesday). If you'd like to postpone the draft by one day, thinking we might be able to recruit that one last team with the extra day, that's fine, but I have tried my hardest in trying raise in interest and awareness to this so you'd come join, and up til now, I've somewhat failed in my initial regards (filling Tilted Time with 10 teams, getting at least 12 teams on board with TFP FF). E-mail some buddies, brothers, and Botany-partners you might have, and see if they might be interested. I have no qualms with that.

I appreciate it, high_jinx. Thanks.
There is still the matter of recruiting more members, though. Both drafts will be here within just a few short days (2 and 4, respectively) yet we still have a dearth of interested parties. I'd settle for just one more team willing to join both leagues (meaning we have an even 8-team-league) , though I'm hoping we can obtain more. For those still wanting to join, but too shy to ask... Here are the league specifics: Tilted Time - (click 'Join Custom') League ID: 359075 password: tilted10 TFP FF League ID: 183485 password: tfproject10

Just bumping this topic up to state that I pushed back both draft dates a day (or two) so that we may have enough of a 'reprieve time' in order to find that one last team we need in each league to join, and make this an even-stevens competition.
Tilted Time will draft sometime Tuesday evening, and TFP FF will proceed to draft the very next night; then, the NFL kickoff on Thursday night will occur, and we'll have ourselves a new season: commenced. (by the way: if we don't happen to get any one else interested in joining up by the time those draft times roll around, then I'll need to change the settings once more to allow the league be scored by "Total Points", instead of the regular head-to-head matchups, so we can still have a live draft.)

It will begin in about an hour and 15 minutes from now; though, I do believe the draft room will open in just about 30 or minutes or so, for those willing to wait and chat amongst themselves.

sorry i had to miss the draft. Hermine left me chasing gallons of water in my garage. At least the auto picks did me decently.

Wow, what an incredibly unexciting season opener. Both teams looked really sloppy. The Saints O looked good in the first quarter, but after that, Minnesota finally D'd up. Favre looked rather mediocre and continues to force the ball into his receivers or his opponent's hands. Shiancoe showed that he continues to be a serious stud.

It's been a PPR (full point) league since as long as I can remember it.
Looking back through the history of it, there was one year where the most important position you could own was an absolutely ELITE QB, not only because touchdowns were worth 6 points that one season, but the commissioner decided to add the setting "1 point per each pass completed". That one change made all the difference, though I don't think anyone noticed it until week 1, when Tom Brady came closing to scoring 100 points all by himself.

Hm. I can understand a receiver getting a bonus for a high yardage play(over 30 yards) but a point per catch? That's seems a little generous. I guess I'm just used to leagues that favor the stud running back rather than the guy who just catches a lot of passes.
You figure, as long a receiver has a quarterback who can get the ball in his hands, he'll have plenty of catches. If the receiver has a bunch of catches that's more credit to the qb than the receiver. But a running back who goes big relies more on his own ability. So I guess I'm more partial to settings that favor the rb. |
