Week 1 started today! The drama unfolds for another 15 weeks... so exciting!

My Packers had another embarassing showing... it's going to be a loooonnnngggg season, but hey, I wouldn't be a fan if I stopped cheering for them when they sucked would I?

Anyway, here's the place for all the random joy and woe to be posted about the 06/07 nfl season.

How about them Ravens, huh? Embarrassed Tampa Bay at home for their first road win in over a year. The offense looks pretty good with Mcnair at the helm.

And the D was stellar as usual. Could be a good year.

Sorry Ace, but I think that you got a very good look at the premier defense in the league and an offense that may still need some work but is quickly gelling. We all know that defense wins championships, so maybe people in this town will stop talking about the damn White Sox and pay attention to Da Bears!

Seriously, the Pack didn't start to look bad until the second half when Farve got desparate. You'd think that he'd have figured out after all these years that he can't force things like that. There were a lot of basic mistakes that shouldn't have happened.

Performance of the day was the Rams though. Wow!

I heard that the Packers are going to use Alex Gibbs zone blocking this year. The same one that has led the Broncos and Falcons to the number 1 and 2 rushing teams.

As a Bronco fan I can already here for the scalp of Plumber, but hopefully this was like last year when we lost the season opener real bad in Miami, and then only lost a couple of games the rest of the season.

I watched Cutler play a lot the last couple of years for Vandy, and he's going to be great. But don't rush him too much. Plumber looked really flat, though. He was worth -3 points in one fantasy league I'm in, and he's got to step up if he's going to keep his job.

The Pack looked like they were using a zone blocking scheme yesterday with mixed results. I didn't hear any confirmation one way or the other during the game, but that's what I thought I saw. Regardless, the results weren't that great since it not only didn't put any points on the board but it didn't help them sustain any drives.

McNair led an impressive opening drive, but after that, he was average. Mind you, average was what we wanted from him at that point (e.g., no INT's). He short armed a few balls, but he faced a decent pass rush from a good TB defense. Great victory to start the season on the road, they must beat up on Oakland and get a win next week though.

My "other team" the Falcons were impressive as well (born in Georgia, moved to Maryland many, many moons ago). Nothing new with the offense, they continue to run the ball well. They led the NFL in rushing the last two years, and they will continue to pound the ball. This brings me to a point.

Why do teams with great defenses earn respect in the NFL, but a team like the Falcons that leads the NFL in rushing the last two years, mainly gets criticism for a 'mobile' QB? A good running game is old school and given more respect than a good passing game. It just doesn't make Sports Center as often. They pound the ball successfully, but critics want to focus on Vick not being able to throw the ball well. That would be a fair critique if their lack of a passing game actually hurt their run game.

It is a long year; lots of bad things can happen at any given moment. Look at Kansas City. Willie Roaf retires and Green gets hurt, and now they have to fight an uphill battle to make the playoffs. I am just happy to be happy after week 1, if that makes sense.

Deon Branch just went to the seahawks. Wow, is that going to be quite a fucking combo. Chargers Defense totally dominated oakland, cowboys will get better, and the falcons will be amazing. It's been an incredible first week, and its just going to get even more crazy with some teams schedules. This is going to be fun.

I think that a first rounder is kind of high for Branch. He is really good, but not great in my mind. I realized that Seatle is sort of desperate though, so they got to do what they got to do.

I knew that looking at their roster going into the season... The O-Line is the backbone of a team... Without it you can't do anything.

Ravens played a Tampa team missing both guards. The replacements had no chemistry with the bookends or center.
I fully expected the result against the Buccs, and I expect the same against the Raiders.

This doesn't mean the Ravens are GOOD. Just that they are better than crap. :D

In Peter King's picks today, he picked the Ravens to win...51-3.

Yeah maybe, but very few so called experts picked the Ravens to beat Tampa Bay, so apparently they weren't too concerned with the missing guards and chemistry situation.

We'll see soon enough if they are good or just "better than crap". I'm guessing they will be pretty good.

Not as soon as you'd think. Week 3 is against TheChuck-less Brownies.

Week 4. Now that will be your first real NFL game of the season against the Chargers, then @ the Broncs.

Our defense is so bad. I don't even know what those guys are doing out there.

Ugh... I want to see Joey Harrington in at quaterback for Miami. I'm tired of seeing Daunte Cullpepper make ill-advised passes into triple coverage.

So I'm now wondering what will happen here if the Bears win the Super Bowl. Does Lovie Smith get the same demi-god status as Ditka? Who wins - Lovie or a hurricane? What if it's Hurricane Ditka?

Seriously, the defense was average (for them), but the offense was pretty exciting. The Lions looked no different than they have for the past 5 years or so, although they certainly moved the ball on occassion. This week at Minnesota should be the big test, but if anyone says that they picked the Vikes to start 2-0, I'm calling bullshit.

I can't cheer for the Bears, but their fans make me laugh. Mainly because their fierce devotion to their team reminds me of another team in the NFL... and I believe we also co-own the title as oldest team in the NFL

I don't have the time to do the research though.

The real question is if Ditka could take Jordan in a game of one-on-one if Ditka was only 12" tall.

You'll note I only steal from the best.

I was going to say something nice about feeling your pain and that Packers fans were great, but then I realized the sacrelidge I was about to commit. No run game, an offensive line made up of medium-sized 5th grade girls and a quarterback who's turning into Warren Moon - put up some great numbers and stayed around WAAAAAAY too long. That makes the Bear fan in me feel warm and tingly inside when I realize that describes the Packers.

Maybe you'll get lucky and Roy Williams will predict a win over you guys.

He already did, sort-of.

Williams said: "You can all run with this: We will win the [next] game". "I don't care who it's against. We will win the game as long as we do what we're supposed to do. That's my comment for the whole week."

He is a good player, really never known him to run his mouth. I guess that is the only way we, or anyone else for that matter, would be talking about the Lions.

Ok, at least we can beat the Lions ;)

Congrats to Favre for going over 400 tds... Also a very strong performance overall. I wish he played like that all the time.

I got a great feeling about tonight's (Monday Night Football) game at New Orleans. It features the two most exciting players in the NFL, Vick, and Bush, and with the emotional rush of a homecoming, I got a feeling it'll be special.

On an aside note, does anyone know where the "Who Dey?" chant comes from or what it means? I've been hearing it chanted by the Saints fans, but have no clue.

Who Dey is a Cincinnati Bengals chant! :) Who Dey is also the name of the mascot for the Bengals, if you ever catch him on tv or at a game. The whole chant goes something like this, "Who Dey, Who Dey, Who Dey think gonna beat dem Bengals." Then the answer to the chant is "nobody!" Not sure when it originated, I think sometime in the 80s. :)
Oh and I looked it up and found out that the Saints chant, "Who Dat", not "Who Dey". Hope that helps ya out!

Yeah, it comes from the Saints, but we modified it because Heidepol beer was brewed here.

In Cincinnati it comes from Hudepohl beer which was very popular there when it was still brewed. At the ball park the beer vendors would yell "Who-Dey!" I also seem to remember "Rock & Roll with Hudepohl!"

I've been watching the TV go on about the T.O. saga, and I'm really dissapointed with the coverage. People seem to fall in the camp that it was a publicity move by T.O., when in fact he had nothing to do with it, the only person really to blame is TO's [hot] publicist. She is the one who (understandably) thought TO had attempted suicide because of the empty bottle and his unresponsiveness. T.O. did NOTHING wrong in this situation. It really is aggravating to see how blinded the media is by their own preconceptions and inability to analyze this situation properly.

buuuuuuuump....so...how about that Haynesworth? If I were the commish, or in the Titans organization, I wouldn't let him play for the rest of the season. It was deliberate, it was dangerous as all hell. Those players are too big, too strong.

There's no excuse for that kind of action, he deserved the rest of the season off.

How about them Bears?

They are playing lights-out and they are clearly the best team in the NFL at the moment. In fact, I don't think it's even close.

Extremely strong D, and that's with two rookies filling in for injured starters. Offense was effective. I'm not sure where their weaknesses are, if any. Fun to watch if you're a Bears fan. But only for the first quarter, then the game's over. Or at least it has been lately.

So far this Bears team looks better than the 85 team. 85 team was great D with average offense. We haven't seen an offense this good in Chicago since before I was born and I'm 36.

The only thing that will stop this team is injuries. Grossman hasn't had very good luck with that, so I'll be worried until the superbowl is over.
