PpfffhahahahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D Seriously though, this is big news, as it throws the status of baseball in Washington into doubt. After six years or so of trying to get the Expos moved to Washington, there is still no ownership group, and none in sight, and no deal for a new stadium. You cannot tell me: A) Portland (had ownership) or Norfolk (had stadium) wouldn't have this settled by now. B) There isn't ownership or stadium money in Charlotte, Nashville, Las Vegas, San Antonio, or any of a half-dozen/dozen cities that would have been more prepared then DC. Of course, MLB is partially at fault as well for the demand that most of the stadium money come from public funds. Major story, especially this close to spring training. |
Washington politics at their finest! What a sad mess.

Let's see, Miami and the Marlins are hating each other, St.Paul's Judge just gave the Twins an out, and now this. IT would appear that the tide has shifted from MLB owners dictating what they want to the cities being able to.
I have never been a fan of owners holding cities ransom and hopefully, this trend stays. Of course this could start talks of retraction again. Cutting 2 teams out to save the owners from losing their prime bargaining chip which, again it appears they have. Norfolk and Portland are not Major League cities. And I believe if you locate a team to Las Vegas, considering baseball's supposed strict anti-gambling rules, it would be hypocrasy to keep Pete Rose out of baseball anymore. There aren't many cities unless they go to Puerto Rico or Mexico and then you're opening up a whole can of worms I'm not sure you want to. |
What defines a Major League city? Population? A lot of the cities that have teams right now have smaller populations than Portland. What kind of stadium do they have in Norfolk?
