Electrolysis Pen Permanent Hair Removal

Ive seen home electrolysis pens. my question to you is, does it work? ive heard that electrolysis works, but does this home kit really work? i also heard it was painful, i' would do it anyway.

I've wondered about that kind of stuff. Razors leave bumps, waxing causes ingrown hairs, I mean it's a lose lose situation. It would be nice to be done with it once and for all, maybe just like the hairs on the shaft and balls, but I'm scared that it might fuck me up or something...

just imagine if you fucked up while doing the trimming.. it'd look like that forever....

I looked into this in quite some detail a while ago.
The conclusion I came to was this:
The home electrolysis kits do work, but, it will take forever.
I wanted to do some of my pubic area and my partner wanted to do most of hers. The amount of time per hair would mean lying on your back playing with the machine for the next 10 years. I finally concluded that the only use for them was the odd persistent spiky hair growing sideways out of your nose.

My next investigation for permanent hair removal was laser. I made an appointment and went to have an 'assessment' for the suitability of my hair (the darker the better). All good, they said it would be very successful.

Problem: Cost!!!
For the small pubic area I wanted done... NZ$450 per session, for 3 sessions one month apart. (total is about US$870)
And for my partner (the whole lot gone forever, including ass hair) it was going to cost her (or both of us) NZ$2200 per session for 3 to 4 sessions one month apart. (total is about US$4300 - US$5700)

So we decided that we had better things to spend our money on at the moment and will stick to shaving and waxing.

This makes no sense to me... the exchange rate is about 1.5-1.6 New Zealand dollars to 1 US dollar. That means $450 New Zealand would be about $288 US.

Back to the thread at hand, I see no reason why I'd spend money on any of this. Just shaving my face is enough trouble, and I only do it because of social norms for people my age and for the illusion of professionalism. I'd suggest against permanent removal of hair, because of the permanence of it.

NZ$450 per session
times 3 sessions
equals NZ$1350
approx US$877

hence...

I have heard though that there is ALWAYS a possibility that it will grow back.

As much as I hate the hair I wouldn't want to pay all that to find out.

Kazic 07-21-2004 08:03 PM

I can't stand body hair. I plucked my entire chest with tweezers one summer I hated it so much. I am not adverse to home electrolsys of any kind heh. I just hate the hair that much. So if it works and I can find it in calgary. I am all for it.

octopus 07-21-2004 08:58 PM

Yes *Nikki*, I am not prepared to pay that much when all they can say is: "Well, it may grow back, it may not."...

If I get a single independent report that this thing works, I'm buying one and laughing maniacally as I mercilessly destroy the pubic hair that has caused me so much pain (from razor burn) and suffering (from the itching as it grows back in that I can't scratch because I'm doing something visible that requires dignity, like being a pallbearer.)

gobble 07-24-2004 01:27 AM

it works, but you need a lot of free time

I tried for a while but i gave up in the end because i just have too much hair

mtsgsd 07-24-2004 10:30 AM

My wife and I did some research on this awhile back. Short story is that you can do it yourself and it does work. We haven't started yet, but it'll take a long time.

Here's the best place I've found for hair removal info. It has a forum too (or did, it's been awhile since I was there).

I tried a home electrolosis machine once, but I was just horsing around and don't think I really did it right. It had an attachment similiar to a tweezers that you held the hair with very close to the root. You had to hold it there for three or four minutes. My wife (at the time) tried it a bit more seriously than me, and she gave up on it. So, I guess you've got to really want it.:)

LOL Yeah, check out the website I posted that's one of the bullshit products out there that have been proven not to work, and yet still get sold. Another one uses some sort of swab that's supposed to take care of a whole patch of skin at once.

The only electrolysis method that works involves sticking a very slender metal needle into the pore that the hair protrudes from and getting it right next to the folicle. You're causing a chemical reaction that produces sulfuric acid that kills the hair root. Hair just pulls out like it was cut. Can you say tedious? Sometimes stings too. In fact, untill you get the process down and stop pushing the needle too far, you'll be stinging a lot. I speak from experience here. :)

From that hairfacts.com site:

The E-Pen sold by Elysse Electro is a home-use version of the doubtful "transdermal hair removal" method. It sends energy through an electrified Q-Tip type of cotton swab.

E-Pen should be avoided by all consumers.

This device has not shown any published clinical evidence it can work as claimed.

It is currently being promoted heavily on television through direct-response commercials
