Bug Chasing

So I came across this topic while surfing the internet, and I can honestly say that I've never even fathomed anything like this being a possibility in society... Anyway, just wanted your input.

Basically, Bug Chasing involves gay men willingly giving/receiving HIV for the purpose of broadening their sexual horizons, if you will. The idea is that if you are already infected with HIV then you don't have to worry about sleeping with someone infected, because you already are. Now, is the one ejaculation worth a slow and agonizing death? Not for me. Which brings me to my next point, what about those "closet fags" who bring it home to their wives/girlfriends? Your input?

Here's the link, in case my explanantion isn't quite clear enough.

I agree with you its pretty fucked up. However I think that it is probably an extremely small minority of gay men who would be into this practise. There are people who have some strange fetishes (because thats what it is really) like this in all kinds of lifestyles and it is hard to understand the mentality behind some of them.

As for 'closet fags' (horrible term to use), they are not really any different from any other person who is being unfaithful and bringing diseases into their relationship. This relationship could be gay or straight and reflect any kind of STD

I'll bet that this is just as widespread as the use of jelly bracelets for sex games.

My guess is that it's an isolated thing that media is (surprise!) blowing out of proportion. Sick things like this and tainted needles being hidden under gas station pump handles creep the hell out of me, which is why I'm glad that they're not much more than urban myths.

As for the "closet fags", I'm guessing you've heard of the Smith family story because you live in Salt Lake City. It was a pretty chilling documentary on PBS about an airline pilot who had homosexual flings and then gave his wife HIV. I find the husband to be despicable because whether or not his Mormon upbringing forced him into the closet, he completely ignored the well-being of another person.

How someone could deliberately infect someone with HIV is beyond my ability to understand, and how someone could get even more stupid and wish to get infected with HIV is even more mind-boggling.

I think people who engage in such practices should be quarantined in maximum-security mental institutions because they are a hazard to society.

I don't know, if someone is so unhappy with themselves, how can they take into consideration the lives of others ? If you actually measure your pleasure in life according to the intensity of your last climax, then why not ? I mean, if all life is to you is your next bang, then what's it going to mean to contract HIV ?

I can't see anyone in that situation with the foresight to be able to anticipate the real impact of their own decisions.

The husband having a fling and spreading HIV to his wife is becoming cliché. Furthermore, the guy doesn't always get it from another man, but a woman with whom he's having an affair. This is why sex/health educators stress the use of condoms, even in monogamous relationships unless you are actively trying to have a baby. Because while you feel you trust your partner's loyalty, their loyalty isn't always a reality. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Those who are most at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS are heterosexual women (typically contracting it from their partner they thought was also monogamous).

I chatted with somebody who is gay and he told me about parties where I think they call it "The Gift that keeps on Giving".

This is where HIV positive Gay Men have unprotected sex. He did mention that non HIV men go to these parties.

Female-to-male HIV transmission is much less likely than male-to-male HIV transmission. So in the worst case, a wife should hope that her husband is at least cheating on her with another woman. Of course there's a myriad of other STDs to worry about, but none quite so terminal.

That's just friggin stupid. I could understand if maybe positive people looked for other positive people because they couldn't contract it twice. But when your looking to get it when your negative or trying to give it to someone else. That's just plain stupid and wrong.

god i find that nasty and sick.
someone has to be messed up in the head to want a deadly disease. Ack. why don't those "bug catchers" just go straight and make a real child if they want one so badly? again, ew
don't get me wrong, i have no problem with gays, i in fact have gay friends. but i would think anyone trying to catch aids (even straight ppl) were sick.

there was a documentary about this, it was on the sundance channel, called "the gift"
this has become popular because treatments have gotten much better

and i kinda think some of these gay men want the hiv because they don't want to become old gay men, old gay men are sad sights, back in the 60's they were swinging partiers, now their old, lonely and wrinkly

This sounds exactly like "Journals of the Plague Years" by Norman Spinrad, a speculative fiction story written back in 1988. One main character had as much unprotected sex with infected people as possible, in an attempt to create a mutation that would be a cure.

Good story! At least when I read it like 10 years ago.

HAHAHAHA, that was just funny to me.

You know what though...if these people (if they really do exist) are only giving it to people who want it and not to people that don't, then I don't see any problem with it.

Ugh, that is both sickening and shocking that anyone would want a disease that can cripple you so completely. I don't eben understand the reasoning behind this. Oh well some things just aren't meant to be understood.
