Reasons against a Prince Albert?
OK, OK, I admit, I'm considering it. I've already got the wife onboard with it, but I'm researching it thoroughly first.
I've found plenty of stories of how much/little it hurt, how much/little it bled, how much/little it added to sex, etc. What I didn't find was a lot of negatives. The main ones where the potential to having to piss sitting down. (Meh, no biggie.) Some initial bleeding/discomfort. (Meh, I'll cope.) Sometimes the hole won't close up if I decide I don't want the piercing any longer. (Well, I understand that risk and am willing to accept it.) I didn't find much about infections, and indeed, it appears that with regular cleanings, infections are quite rare. I did find a few stories where the female partner had some discomfort during sex, but not many. For all intents, it seems that I shouldn't have any reason to be worried about getting it. What I'm looking for from you guys is good solid reasons that I should consider not getting it. I'm not talking about "dude, you're nuts" or "man, that's gonna hurt", or "you're a freak." I'm talking about good factual reasons against it. Links would be greatly appreciated, as would personal horror stories. Thanks in advance! I'll keep you posted.

So if the person who does it doesn't take proper precautions you could get a potentially life-threatening infection. If they make a mistake you could be rendered impotent. Quoting an article in The New Scientist from March of 2005:
"Although only 3 per cent of people with such body piercings ever seek medical advice, about 60 per cent suffer associated health problems, according to a survey of 147 people with nipple or genital piercings, or both." Now I don't know if that sample size is significant, and I obviously hope you don't have any problems. But the bottom line is it is an unnecessary and significant procedure, so you are taking a risk you don't have to take.

I have a penis piercing myself, I've got a frenum piercing.
Now, the best advise I can give you is make sure you get a Titanium ring, seriously, DO NOT use gold. Gold actually dissolves quite easily. Be careful about the kind of metal you choose and make sure you're not allergic to it. As I said, titanium all the way, it's expensive, but doesn't seem to have the same problems as other metals. When you first get the piercing, don't be surprised if you feel sick for a day or so. You're body might try to reject it, and your immune system will chuck a bit of a tantrum as a result. Clean it twice a day for the first couple of months, and I hate to break it you buddy, but you're going to have to give away wanking for a month or so and sex for even longer. And I'm not shitting around about sex, take that seriously, if vaginal fluids get into the piercing before it has healed properly you WILL get an infection.

I'm curious if it's troublesome in freezing cold weather or sweltering hot weather. I'd also wonder if it's going to be a hassle going through airport security ... or if you'd be vulnerable in an electrical storm (just kidding.)

I do realize that it is unecessary, but that's why I'm doing the research first, and why the first piercing studio I visited probably is not going to be getting my business. (Wasn't "hospital" enough for me...) Quote:

A non-zero chance at infections that could lead to amputation, loss/disfunction of erections, and sitting down to piss are enough for me.

What other reason besides 'sharp object near penis' do you need?
I'm not sure what the positives are, maybe it would make the wife feel good down there... But I would worry about tugging it or the pushing and pulling from sex might not feel that good. Plus, you won't be able to piss straight. So it would be much harder to take a piss outdoors. You would need to clean it often. There is always the money you would save by not getting one. I don't know enough about them to come up with anything else. |

But as for keeping it clean, you only really have to keep cleaning it until it heals up. After that you just need to do it once in a while.

positives?
you can also hang a spare set of car keys from them or it's a place to hide your chewing gum or you can attach your wheeled luggage like a trailer hitch if your hands are full or you can have fun with a ferrous piercing and an electromagnet

In all seriousness, you are free to do as you like, of course. You asked for reasons why not, I did a five minute Google search and turned up the things I mentioned. I'm not a doctor, I don't know anyone with such a piercing (at least I don't think so...) and I don't have any stake in the matter.

What are the positives again? I have to admit to being more than a little disturbed when my older son got his nipples pierced. He says he likes it, but let's face it: Nipples are a far cry from penises. This practice kind of reminds me of something I read regarding the men of the tribe lacerating their dicks with crab claws, or some damn thing, in order to prove they were as good as their mates.
Then, too, I don't understand how it could make anything feel better.

Hey now, don't knock nipple piercings. I was okay with a non-zero chance I would lose functioning in those.

... At the end of the day, it seems to me that you know the medical risks involved. So maybe you're looking for someone to talk you out of it? The only advice you're going to get is either the medical problems you already know of or "why the hell would you do that to your penis? Do you know the risks?!?" I say if after all that you still want to do it.... just do it.

I've never had a problem.
You don't have to piss sitting down. You just have to be more vigilant about dripping. As for infection, with proper care, there is very little chance of infection. I did get a slight infection but some polysporin cleared it up in a day or two. As for the thread catching... never had a thread yet on the PA though I did have them catch on an ampallang and that fucking hurt.

And as far as risks.... Yes, there is a "non-zero" risk of problems with this. But what in life is truly "non-zero"? Driving, walking down the street, playing sports, etc. Hell, even eating has risks. Still, if anyone has something to add, I would like to hear about it. Thanks!

Urine is generally sterile (unless you have a pre-existing infection) so that shouldn't cause an infection and since most guys tend to shelter their penises I should think that healing isn't an issue. There's no bone or cartilage in your penis, so there's no real issues there. I could see nerve damage as being a possibility, but this is really all just random musings, since I have no intention of adding any holes to my body and therefore have not researched it. My advice would be to go find the person you want to do the piercing and then ask them about any possible complications. A good piercer ought to be able to tell you what the risks are.
On a semi-related not, Charlatan I gotta say I'm surprised. You do the whole respectable business man type thing. I never would've guessed you've got cock jewelery.

I was getting tattooed a few years ago...
The guy that owned the shop was also one of the piercers. He walked into the room where I was getting my work done with this odd look on his face. He had just given a guy a PA. The problem was that just after he had stuck the needle through the guy got a huge erection. You can imagine all things wrong with that... He had to leave the guy in the room for twenty minutes with the needle sticking out of his cock until the guys erection went down.

Getting it snagged on a tongue ring?
I have a friend who had his done. How can I put this delicately...He spent a lot of time working in cramped spaces (all spaces were pretty cramped for him if you catch my drift). Well, long story short, it worked its way shallower and shallower until one day...well, we'll just leave it at now we call him fishlips. Only reference I have either way, although he told me he found a weird french tickler looking tounge ring to put in it, which no one ever had anything but good things to say about.
