Question - Sores on Lips
OK, I know this has probably been asked before, but I can't find it.
I get canker-sores on the inside of my lips. These aren't cold-sores; they don't blister, and they're always internal. I've never had the classical external cold-sore; seen folks with 'em all my life, but never had one myself. Is this a type of Herpes infection? An old girlfriend recently mentioned that she also got the things frequently, since she was a kid, but that it'd seemed more frequent since our relationship. Since the aforementioned relationship was a lengthy and involved one, you can guess where this is going. Is there any chance of -internal- mouth sores transmitting a Herpes-simplex virus to the genitals? |

Yes. But it's not genital herpes, it's oral herpes on the genitals. Neither are curable but oral herpes on genitals are the ones you want if you had to have one or the other. Just keep your mouths to yourselves while you have any type of sore in your mouth. Trust me on this one. You don't want to be responsible for "the gift that keeps on giving".

How do you know you just didn't bite the inside of your lip when you were sleeping? Wouldn't it look the same?
On a side note, I haven't had any peanuts or peanut butter in the past two months, and haven't had any sores. Before it seemed like they always came a day after I ate salted peanuts out of the can. |

If what you're getting are canker sores and not cold sores, not only are they not contagious, they're not herpes at all.
A couple links to help set things straight: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_sore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canker_sore

Back in October of 1979 I had a gal practicly drag me to bed with her.
She had her sights set on another guy but his wife put a stop to that. After that event she came on to me heavy. I bedded her, and damn was she vocal! Looking back, I think she was a herpes carrier. I got a rash on my dick that lasted about 6 months after fucking her. Before I knew I had the rash I tried to hook up with her again, but no luck, she just ignored me. I think she was purposely spreading herpes, but don't know how to be sure. It's been over 25 years now and I have not had an outbreak since. Should I be worried about spreading disease? |

Oh. A canker sore is an ulcer...
One thing I've noticed... if you are doing a lot of kissing the pressure against teeth can give cuts - or bruises which can infect and become ulcers. (Just a thought). My personal cure for these is to put vegemite on them. Our local spread. While travelling (can't get vegemite outside AU) I found that vitamin C tablets work well, but it hurts a little on first contact. I doubt the vitamin bit does anything - I think that having the salt against it is what causes it to go. Put the table between the sore and your teeth/tongue whatever.... Mind you, it may not work. |
