Vote for, or vote against?
 

If the election were held today, how would you characterize the vote you might cast?

Some democrats aren't energized by their candidate, but would vote to vote against Bush. Likewise, some Republicans aren't excited by or pleased with Bush, but will vote for him because he's better than a Democrat.

I hate doing polls, but I was curious.

I'm a Dean person, m'self, and since that's not likely to happen now, i'll take whatever i can get, as long as it's not Bush or Cheney.

I don't care for the current crew, so they will not be getting my vote or, for that matter, the votes of my parents - staunch Republicans. I expected a moderate furthering the reforms of Clinton - I got a man with no coherent foreign policy (campaigning against "nation building" and humanitarian intervention, and then getting us bogged down in Iraq - which had nothing to do with 9/11).

As for domestic policy, the tax cuts and increased social spending have been taken too far - our accounts need to be put in order, and I don't see team Bush having a firm hand in that area. It pisses me off that, every year, communist China and other foreign creditors are claiming more and more of our increasing national debt.

I have no particular affinity for some Democratic programs, so I do not know how I will vote in particular- only that GWB will not factor into the equation.

Well, I wont be voting, since I am not American, but in the current situation I would chose "the lesser of two evils" and vote for Bush's most credible opponent, if I had a vote.

I never vote against a party, but rather for the party that reflects my views.

I sincerely hope that there will come a day when the Republican who is running is not so purely evil or totally incompetant (or both like this year) that I can in good conscious vote FOR the Democrat, rather than AGAINST the Republican, but that opportunity hasn't been there since Eisenhower, and, with the increasing polarization of the active American electorate, the increasingly aggressive cynicism and apathy amongst the inactive electorate, and the pathetic quality of citizenship training in schools, I don't know if that opportunity will present itself in the next 8 to 15 presidential elections I figure I'll be around for. (Of course, if the Bush Bund decides to go for a coup before they're driven from office, all bets may be off.)

I don't believe that we need to change leadership in the middle of our current crisis. We just need to be ready when the new taxes come out.

If we did decide to change, Kerry is NOT the person that I put my faith in.

I would like to see Dean/Edwards in 2008.

Dean's candidacy is over. It's just a matter of time until he opts out.

The same is basically true for Edwards, though he has the luxury of staying in for what will become (and already is) a two man race.

The main advantage Kerry has is his decision to opt out of federal financing.

I don't think this will come as much of a surprise, but I am supporting Senator Kerry. I am not sure Senator Edwards will be his V.P., but I like the ticket. If for some reason Kerry implodes and is not the nominee, I will vote for the Democrat (unless Hell freezes over and Kuchinich or Sharpton get the nomination). I am not a fan of the Bush administration and I really believe we need to move on and put the Bush behind us.

Due to the Patriot Act's controversial provisions, lack of fiscal conservatism, and (to a much lesser extent) the position against gay marriage, I'll be voting against the democrats more than voting for Bush.

This is an odd phrasing. I take it that you are pleased with the Patriot Act's "controversial provisions"? I would imagine you'd want to choose a more complimentary adjective.

I disagree with the controversial provisions. Thus, my vote becomes less of a vote for what Bush stands for and more of a vote against what democrats stand for.

I can't think of many people that could run against Bush that I wouldn't vote for.

it's not bush that i'd vote against...it's his whole freaking entourage. Bush isn't satan..he's just controlled by satan. He's a puppet, period, plain and simple, he really is just pushing through what everyone tells him to push through. Sometimes, it's a good thing to have a puppet president...now...i'd have to say no. Seriously, his "handlers' are more controlling than britney spears' handlers. mmm...handling britney spears...mmm..ok, back on topic. He's only allowed to speak when they say he can. Don't you find it odd he's currently the recordholder for least amount of press time of any president in modern times (since tv press conferences anyway). Seriously, they dont' let him speak too often when it's not highly scripted, edited and practiced. Who knows, i may even like the "real" bush if he would ever come around...

So, with that said, i'll agree with another poster and say, there really aren't too many people i wouldn't vote for over bush. Not bc of my particular hatred of bush, but for everyone surrounding him. Heck, i would just vote against anyone Karl Rove is associated.

I will vote for whoever is most likely to decrease the size of government. Although GWB has not done this, Republicans are still a better bet than Democrats. So I will vote for him once again. After looking at the Democratic candidates, I feel pretty confident about his chances of re-election.

I would love for the Republican party to go back to its roots and start supporting smaller government again. Lower taxes, fewer social programs, no trade barriers, competitive markets for everything. That would be great. It seems to me that Republicans have moved left and Democrats have moved a little right and have basically become the same party.

Was this what you thought it would be??

i must say that right now, 33 to 18 with democrats winning is NOT what i expected. Seriously, not even close, i was expecting a bit more of a balance between the two.

As stated already in this thread, I'm voting against Bush's policies: largest government ever, Patriot act, faith-based charities, appeasement of large health-care organization, mortgage of our future with tax cuts for the rich, needless going-it-alone in the Iraq war, ruinous foreign relations, and, finally, Ken Lay is still free.

I would vote for a potted plant right now if I thought it could beat Bush.

I guess im voting against Kerry. Would vote for Edwards. But i have a strong disliking for both Bush and Kerry just that I like Bush's go get them stance on national defense, i know a lot dont agree...

Im hoping Edwards wins the nomination.

my paramount priority is getting bush out.

It used to be that people would vote for bush, they genuinely liked him/whatever, and he's pissed off enough that more people dislike him and his party vs liking the opposite party/candidate.

Like others have said, would vote for a flower pot vs putting bush back in...

that is really kinda scary..
