No, I don't think that at all. But I think the press core needs to, frankly, get its balls back and be willing to call him on it loudly and firmly when he refuses to answer. And make sure THAT is what is broadcast - that Bush refused to answer. If the press was stronger, politicians would have to answer because otherwise, they look guilty.

The members of the press corps with balls or escorted from the room. Cant have those pesky reporters trying to get to the truth. So we have the truth according to Bush. Which is actually the truth according to the puppet masters. :paranoid:

Okay, but a really interesting notion just got floated.

What if the responsibility for getting straight answers was taken off the shoulders of the press--where it never belonged to begin with. What if the President (or the White House Press Secretary, or whoever) was sworn in under oath at press briefings? The way they currently are designed, they're just spin sessions, and nothing substantive can ever be expected to come out of them. What if administration people could be tried for perjury for their statements at press conferences?

And if ALL of the press corps would get balls, then people would notice that the press briefings were awful quiet. Part of having balls is repeatedly broadcasting the fact that the people's government is ejecting the establishment designed to make that government accountable to the people.

The whole reason these guys are getting away with this shit is because the media is letting them. I have had senators (from both parties), arguably some of the most powerful people on earth, turn the other way and start walking fast when they see me coming. They actually run away from little ol' me. Why? Because they know I'm going to ask the tough questions and I'm not going to let them get away with not answering those questions, and if they refuse to answer, I'm gonna broadcast THAT. Trouble is, I'm just one guy. If all, or hell even most, of the journalists did that, then they'd have nowhere to run.

Yeah, but we all know that'll never happen. It IS the responsibility of the press to either get a straight answer or to trumpet the fact that they're not getting one to the heavens.
