Key West By Scooter
Just a few hastily snapped shots from the back of a scooter buzzing around the streets of Key West a couple of weeks ago. Man, I love it there. My first visit and hopefully not my last!
I have better photographs, but they're on film and I don't have a scanner...yet. Except for the lighthouse and Emma St. they were all taken while we were zooming around. Considering, I was pleasantly surprised to see that any of them came out at all! I'm still new at this photography business. This last one I took for my daughter...her name is Emma. She was delighted!

uhhhh, no fly...I live here in Florida. You must have me confused with someone else.
That last 160 miles on A1A at 35-45 miles per hour feels like your driving cross-country, though. uhhhh, I just read the forum rules...I should have stuck this thread in Traveling...I think...sorry if I messed up

Some nice shots. Makes me realize I've been away from Key West way too long and I need to get down there, again. Perhaps this Spring.
One thing I don't like about Key West is all the exposed telephone/power lines. Too bad the city can't be progressive and bury them. They might not be able to bury them, I dunnoh, but I sure think the area would look much nicer with them all out of sight.

And as for the power lines, you know, I didn't even notice them until I got home and saw the pictures. Being that they are basically floating on water down there, I guess burying the cables is out of the question. But as far as the pictures go, I kind of like all the diverging lines. But then, my eye likes "flaws," I think. Quote:
But we've rubbed elbows on other threads, here and there.

MM, I was down in Key West only once, and believe it or not it was on business. I had a case to argue in the federal courthouse. I think I was the only person on the whole island wearing a suit, and when I got to the airport for the flight back to Ft Lauderdale a lot of people were looking at me cross-wise, as you can well imagine - after all, who the heck comes to Key
West wearing a tie? I would really love to get back there
not on business. I made only one very quick trip down Duval street and it looked interesting. Maybe next time! |

It's funny you should mention legal business in Key West. My good friend whom I went there with received a speeding ticket on the way down (45 mph over the speed limit *gulp*) which has turned into a nightmare for him. I feel terrible about it. But he has hired a lawyer in KW to represent him in court to save the long trips back and forth (he lives in Naples). One thing I did notice down there was how many of the old Key West homes had been converted into law offices. Not a bad gig, eh? When I was a kid growing up in a small beach town, my best friend's father was the district attorney there. Rarely did you see him out of his sandals and Hawaiian shirts, lol. That sort of Florida attitude is quickly disappearing, but lives on still in Key West. I think that's why I felt so instantly attached to the place. Boy...I digressed up there a bit. Somebody shut me up already. And did I mention the chickens? There are chickens running free all over Key West. It's adorable. Chickens and cats...living together in peace in harmony.

mixedmedia, those are great pictures, I would love to visit or live there. I have a friend who grew up there and listening to her stories, of going out and pulling up lobster traps and cooking on the beach, yum.

Awesome pics, I've been to Key West only once so far a few years ago and it was amazing. We had a nice suite that was only a few blocks from Duval street. Checked out Ripley's which was pretty cool and went parasailing. Did you happen to go on the ghost tour while you were in the area? I'd love to go back to Key West when I get the chance.

I'd love to go back soon, as well. Brewmaniac, Somehow I missed your post above. I spent some of my formative years growing up in another small Florida town (on the east coast). It was a whole different world - really cool, laid back, fun and disappearing fast. I'm sure your friend cherishes her memories of growing up there.
