Photo Assignment: 25 August 2006 Things that are Wet

Here is your next photo assignment, should you choose to accept it.

Things that are wet...

As suggested by Koni -- Things that are wet... interpretation up to you... :D

Don't forget to add in suggestions for next week's assignment...

The Guidelines:

Pictures
**How you interpret the theme is entirely up to you.
**Pics should be taken during the assignment period not just yanked out of your portfolio.
**Pics should be 800*600 pixels My Windows XP photoresizer tutorial: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showpos...1&postcount=11
**We're looking for natural images. Some post processing is ok (colour correction, redeye reduction, contrast etc), but no gross manipulation, on occasion we will have an assignment that calls for differing kinds of manipulation. However, for the most part, think "natural."
**Give your photo a title, it just sounds cooler that way.
**Remember the basic rules of Tilted Photography and the TFP: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=46601

Comments

**Comments have to (and this part is critical) have substance. -----That is to say; "That foto r0xxor!!," just ain't gonna cut it.
Think more along the lines of:
-----That photo would be better if....
-----That subject's eyes would be better lit if you did....
**Comments should have a constructive edge to them, we're trying to improve here not just stroke each other's egos (but do be nice).
**Please comment on as many photos as you can, prefereably every one. No one likes to feel left out.
**After making your comment please make suggestions for next week's assignment. I will take all the suggestions and select one randomly and/or at the suggestion of the community.

**My overiding vision for this game/exersize/whetever, is to improve our skills as photographers. Regardless of your skill or ability we want everyone to contribute.**
**This is an experiement, the processes and guidelines are up for debate**

PLEASE DON"T FORGET TO ADD IN YOUR SUGGESTION FOR NEXT WEEK'S ASSIGNMENT...
Thanks

I'm wide open for suggestions on this one. It was a situation where I had to grab my small point-and-shoot, take the shot, and get out of the way.

I liked the fog-shrouded bridge and the boat, but something about the composition just detracts. Should I crop a great deal of it? Just buy a better camera? Give up and find a new hobby?

Wish I'd had time to try it from several angles.

you could crop it so the dark area becomes a pseudo frame. Suggestion the bridge, but not show too much of the forground part.

This was taken earlier this year, shortly right after I got my new camera.
So please delete this post if it's disqualified by date.

Nice one, Joe. That's your lensbaby, yes?

It's a beautiful shot of a sexy bridge. I second the cropping suggestion, just cut off enough so that there's no sky visible above the bridge in the foreground, it'll emphasise the 'horisontalness'. Also, consider editing out the number 4 on the leftmost pillar, it really draws my eye now.

bernadette I love that picture. It's so close I could reach out and touch it, or even better, feel the spray of the bubbles on my lips.

bernadette 09-07-2006 09:56 PM

Thanks so much, Mal & eribrav :)
That was actually the first time I attempted to play with exposure time. i was inspired by soft waterfall long exposure photos I'd noticed. So tapped the kitchen sink for a test drive. : )

Magictoy, I appreciate those bridges & their aches. Don't give up your hobby. I'm not giving up either. There's a lot of great photographers about that can make you/me/us seem inadequate -or better- we can be inspired & attempt to learn from their examples.

Wow Bob, I NEVER see such bounty of seashells on the west coast. That's awesome!

Konichiwaneko 09-08-2006 06:21 AM

eribrav didn't even have to post a picture with that avatar.

that's beautiful, billy... very cool pic

bernadette 09-09-2006 09:58 PM

Holy cow, Billy Ocean -- that's insanely cool!

Ch'i 09-09-2006 10:26 PM

We have some talented picture takers in this place! I'll try and get in on the action but, just to warn you in advance, I don't have one of those uber expensive, crystal clear cameras.

Charlatan 09-09-2006 11:25 PM

Seriously Ch'i... do not make that your concern. Just get out and take a picture. Worry about making great pictures later. I've done most of my photos on TFP with the camera that came with my phone. It has less than a megapixel in resolution (or whatever a megapixel represents). The point is to work on composition and style with what you have. I know some people that have very expensive cameras and they couldn't take a good picture to save their lives.

It's all about trying and trying some more. Take lots of pictures and spend some time looking at other's photos and try to figure out why theirs looks good or bad (there is often more to learn from a bad example than a good one).

I liked the suggestions. I 'shopped this a lot, took out the 4 and the graffiti, and added some water.

It may not be perfect, but I like it better.

Great shot! I've been thinking about a similar one. Spiders are everywhere this year.

Is somebody going to take a shot of an entire wet spiderweb? Those are always cool.

Billy Ocean 09-10-2006 11:10 AM

Thanks for the compliments... I saw this guy hanging out so I went and got my hose and put it on mist to give him that wet look....

I haven't been around here much lately but I love this forum and I'm going to make an effort to participate more.

Cheers everybody!

Here's another one...

eribrav 09-10-2006 11:23 AM

Billy I really like that pic. The thing that makes it so great to me is that I pass dozens of webs like that each morning, but never take the time to look up close and appreciate what's right in front of me. Thanks.
