Would you kill God if given the chance?
With the advances in Artificial Intelligence it seems possible, although not probable to me, that at some point humans will create an intelligent machine. At that point the entity will have free will and be able to make its own decisions. I view this as the equivalent of a human suddenly becoming the equivalent of God. If you look at the premise of two major Hollywood movies (Terminator, Matrix) the new entity would be malevolent and would attempt to either eradicate humans or control them.
If I was suddenly the equivalent of God, I would see him as a kindred spirit and someone I could relate to rather than some kind of competetion I would have to quash. Your thoughts? |
I'd buy him a beer.

I don't give the concept any energy. I suppose that amounts to extinguishing it in my thought process.

What a weird question!
Even if I could, somehow kill God...why would I? He's supposed to be a pretty nice guy! If you attempted to kill him, and came very close, but failed, would he forgive you? I mean it's all very well for him to forgive you robbing stuff of somebody else...but when it's his own life at stake, maybe he wouldn't be so merciful? |
The creation of man by God, is the creation of the finite by the infinite. But with computers it would be the creation of the finite by the finite. They are the flawed created by the flawed, neither is infallable as in the case of God creating humans. So perhaps the computers would see our flaws and attempt to exploit them. There are no flaws to exploit in the infinite which is why we wouldn't kill God.
(That is, if that is your definition of God.) Maybe. |
If I could kill "God", I would be killing me, you, plants, trees, animals, air, everyone and everything in existance- all is created from One Essence.
A- killing God is not possible. B-wouldn't do it even if it were possible. |
Nah, the humans creators and AI analogy is not equivalent to life and god.
A machine AI would simply be an evolutionary branch of our species. No different then certain primates becoming human while others retaining their original disposition. Certainly the humans killed off/or starved off their parental line. If the machines were to kill humans they would be doing just that, killing off the branch of the species that retained the weaker element. Also if I met god and had the ability to kill him, I would not. For if I met god all I would know is that one exists. I would have no knowledge of the being before me and therefore no motive to kill it. If on the other hand I met god and had a chance to ask it if it were just like one of the Christian, Jewish or Islamic gods, and god answered: yes. Then I would certainly kill the motherfucker if I could. |
I thought we already did.
|
Kill- no.
Spank- probably. |
I would kill god if I could become it when it's dead.

The vibrancy of the metaphor has dwindled... the reason Nietzsche said that God was dead is that organized religion did it. I'd agree; and I'd add to it that we're living in very abstract times with the proliferation of all kinds of media, which makes it even harder. I don't see the difference between this A.I. metaphor and simply having a child... or creating anything. It is all equally Daedalean... though maybe not in a subjective frame of reference. Does this question remind any you of Pinocchio? Yes, someday we'll all be real boys. And eventually we'll all be real Gods... |
i would try to oust him/her in some kind of competition-like games/sports etc.... that would be fun

For god to die or be killed god must first exist. god does not exist.
. . . . . . . . . . . In my opinion. |
Assuming God exists, and that God can be killed without adverse consequences...
I'd tell him to smarten up, or it's off to the gallows. |

Maybe just threaten him a bit. If you dont solve the problems of the world you get it! :)

In the context that you say this in, I assume you mean "creator" when you say "God". So, that is like saying, would you kill your parents, or if you are a robot, your engineers. Well, probably not. But if they were somehow holding me back and preventing me from growing and improving myself, I might have to do something about him/her.
|
I know...
What if "God" is an alien race, and we are just AI that THEY created?? Our bodies work quite similar to most machines, each system relying on one another. If one goes out, others go out, etc. |
well i dont believe creating something makes you a god. i dont consider my parents gods.
to be a god you must have people worship you. if you have a god you cant kill it, you wouldnt want to. if you want to destroy something it would be a foe, and could never be your "god". |
If it were an alien race, I'd high five them for fooling me so well, then Hang out with them and have a good time. If God is who I thinkg God is... I'd give him a high five then hang out with God and have a good time..... Either way I plan on having fun.

Well, by my definition God is not the creator,
but the soul or essense of the universe. God is what we are a part of and live with. I have faith in not my father, but in myself. And so...I would not kill God, because this would be the equivalent of hurting myself & those I care about. How selfish. |
I'd give him a chance to explain himself first.
:p |
why kill him, why kill any one? if there was a god, why would one want to kill him(her).
|
I'd see if he wanted to take a vacation for a few weeks, and control the world Bruce Almighty style.
I don't see the point in killing god. If you believe in that sort of thing, then why would you want to kill the creator of you? If he's the one who makes you think the way you think, walk the way you walk .. I'd like to ask him a few questions. Shake his hand. Honestly, if God was sitting on your couch right now, you can't say you'd want to kill him. After having multiple heart attacks from the pure shock of finding the creator on my couch, I think I'd find out a few things from him first .. then allow him to continue doing his business. He must be a busy guy, after all .. Its like Santa Claus, every night of the year! |
I wouldnt kill it, just send it to litarery school for awhile, then get a descent rewrite on that awful book.
|
Would I kill him? Nah. I'd actually shake his hand for doing such a great job, especially considering he is only human and all. :)
 |
no way. but in my view of God it would be quite impossible because you'd have to destroy the whole universe.
|
Nope. I would have alot of questions though. :D
|
How would it be possible to kill God? The whole entity of God is imortality which much means he cant be killed.
As far as my answer would go I would say no I wouldnt its not possible. |

You may want to read the Hebrew Scriptures a little more before formulating your "battle" plan. :) |
Ahhhh...The illusion of disunity, that we are not like god and that god is some dude sitting on a throne somewhere - and that we could sneak in his "palace" and kill him.
What if we are all god? Both individually and collectively? Then what? Kind of invalidates the question, huh? More to the point - why would you (we) want to kill god? For revenge? To see what happens? Both suppose that we are not god. Why not take the responsibility that you are just as much god as anything else is. You have the power to create just as you imagine "he" does. You're just too afraid to use it. Its much easier to blame everything on someone else, isn't it? Probably a topic for another thread - just got me thinking! :) |
