cost of childcare

Can anyone help me with a current and general cost for group (church or private org) childcare? I live in the midwest (ohio) if that helps any. I'm just looking for a ballpark figure for a 1 year old. I want to see what some others are paying before I start looking so I will know if there prices are unreasonable. I'm looking into what to expect this summer when I move and start school again. Were also considering an Au Pair from my wife's home country, because it's the only way I can think of to keep my son exposed to his mother's native language (Bulgarian).

I'm not really looking for a discussion on how to find good childcare, There are plenty of posts on that...

$575/month. Breakfast and Lunch are included. It's a more structured daycare; ie. there are classes and lessons from teachers with degrees in education.

If you're interested in comparing population I'm in Memphis, TN.

lol, that's funny, I was just in Memphis on business. I was there for the last two weeks. Thanks for the info, I live in Cleveland, so it'd be about comperable in pop.

$30 a day full time. $3.50 an hour part time.

I pay 25 dollars per week per child for after school care for two children for two to three hours per day. Yes, I know I'm getting a good deal. I'm in southern Oregon.

Here in the North East, Babies run about $225 per week, and its a sliding scale to school age which runs about $150 per week.

Here in Toronto it is anywhere from $600 to $1400 per month for a child that young.

I am currently paying $700/month for my three-year-old daughter.

I run a home child care. My cost is about median for our area. One child, full time, for one month, costs about $500. I don't charge for food but I require diapers and babyfood/formula to be provided by the parents.

Some daycare's charge a flat fee for a range of hours such as 35-40 hrs/week cost $100/week. If you go over that number of hours then you pay extra. I prefer to charge by the hour since if the parents call in sick they're not paying for a day of childcare when the kid is not here. BUT that means that if they call in sick I don't get paid for that day. It just doesn't seem fair to me to charge them though. But then when they parents have to stay late I make more. It balances out either way really.

Currently I pay $120/ month for my son to go to the church preschool. It is 2 mornings a week, 2 1/2 hours each time. Next year, age 4, it is 3 days, 2 1/2 hours, $150.

Daycare centers are costly here. They want 819/month for 5 days a week, 8-6pm. They want over $1000 for an infant.

edited to add: this was the reason my children are 5 years apart. Could not afford to have both in daycare at the same time.

Wow I can't imagine making that much. I would currently be making about $2200 a month without leaving my house. That's even figuring in expenses. Shoot I could live off that without hubby working. I wonder what housing costs are though.

You can't buy a half decent house in Toronto for under 350K.

I just can't imagine that. You guys know what kind of house we got. With some remodeling that we've done we've got a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with 2400 sq ft (I think I remember that right), most of which is newer structure or remodeled for a total of 80k. I guess I'll stick with the childcare money that I make here which is a little less than half what I'd make there.

About $100 a week here in Omaha depending on if your 1yr old is still an infant or has moved on into the joyous toddler stage. I _think_, anyway. My almost-1yr old is free because she's a state ward still and my 3yr old is half price at $56/week... But from what I remember...

I'm in Va. and a friend of ours takes his son to a lady who runs a daycare out of her house. She works with the children just like a preschool would and she charges $75.00 a week per child. She only takes children 3-5 so once our son is older we would like to take him there also.

You can see where I live
<---

My sister in law pays about $160 a week for a 4 year old at the Y day care. Most other daycares in the area are at least but the most is $175/week with food provided. An infant under 18 monts, is almost $200 at most places. Child care is rediculous, but if you have to pay you have no choice. My wife always stayed home (still does) so it's not an issue for us. We went a second income for her to be home to raise the children. That's another discussion though.

I believe the average price for a detached home in T.O. is now $450,000+.

Down the street from me, a centre townhouse, 2000 sq feet, no property around it, just a drive way, sold for $613,000. I was blown away.

Average detached price in Willowdale now over $700,000!

It is insane.

We just bought outside the city (Newmarket/Aurora area), and end unit town on a 180 foot lot, with 3 bedrooms, lots of upgrades done, for just over $300,000. Never thought I'd pay that for a town outside the city, no matter how nice it is, but there you have it.

highthief 03-27-2006 04:49 AM

BTW, our daycare costs for 4 days a week in Toronto for our 17 month old = $1100 a month.

thank god it goes down when she hits 18 months to $900 a month, and indeed, it should be cheaper when we find her a spot in Newmarket or Aurora.

We take our kids to a lady who babysits at home. Per child, we pay $17/day for a full day, $7/day for just after school. We live in Southern Illinois.
