11:11
for about the last year or so, i've been sitting at my computer doing my geek thang, and looking up at my clock to see what the time is...and more often than not its always 11:11pm
what the hell? the first time it happened i was like "ok, coincidence", but then it started happening several times a week. It doesn't happen so much anymore cos im not usually awake past 11 because of work. Anyone else here had a similar experience? im absoloutely confuddled as to what it could possibly mean. |
Are you the same guy who posted this?
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=33166 If not, prepare to be confuddled further. |
No i'm not the same person. Im new to these boards, and this whole seeing 11:11 thing has been in the back of my mind for a while, and this forum seems appropriate.
Its really weirding me out to see that someone else has had the same experience. |
I explained this in the previous posting, but here's my theory.
Your brain processes incoming sensory data. Because there's so much of it, it automatically ignores most of it without your knowledge, using some sort of unconscious processing. You probably catch a glimpse of a clock countless times per day. Most of the time you are not aware of this -- it's in your peripheral vision, or you are not interested in the current time. In any event, you are not aware that your eyes have captured the image of the current time. But, due to some small coincidence (perhaps 11:11 has some other significance to you, or you happened to see 11:11 back to back two days in a row), your brain has started to take note whenever it sees 11:11. Hence, your attention may be drawn to 11:11 much more than other times. |
lordjebus, the clinical word for what you describe is called a 'scotoma.' Your brain filters out millions of bits of information every day, but will allow some through. For isntance, look around where you are now, and think about the color red. Any red things aroud you? Yes? See what I mean. That's how scotoma works.

i did too... and it may just all be a coincidence. but like, it was that point of the night that i consciously thought to myself "jeez, whats the time?" and had a look, and more often than not it was 11:11. yeah, im confused. |
thought you posted it today on purpose but forgot to mention it...
i think it's wierd as hell that someone else posted the same thing, but then again if it's a digital clock, 11:11 is one of the comparatively few recognizable patterns that will show up (4 vertical lines). thanks jujueye for letting us know what that's called. there was a particular time on the clock that i always noticed a while back, but by now i forget what it is :) but i can try to expand the explanation -- you keep noticing 11:11 because maybe your daily routine often puts you in the same place at the same time, but more so that once you've seen it once or twice it becomes familiar. you don't notice a coincidence with all the other times on the clock, because they're not familiar or recognizable! another example that illustrates this effect: there was a guy in my town who covered his car in astroturf, and everyone was saying how you always see the astroturf car everywhere you go. well of course it's just that it's recognizable -- no one notices "the tan minivan" or "the red ford" because there's nothing unique about it -- there's tons around. |
That is really wierd especially if you are two different people but i agree with Fearless_hyena's theory. Also it is probably a coincident that your birthday is on 11.11 but it makes you more aware of that figure and therefore you are more likely to notice it. The more coincidences that keep occuring the more likely those numbers will stand out to you. You may have been more aware of it yesterday as it was your birthday hence you posted sbout it.

it wasn' tmy birthday yesterday. that was the guy who started the other 11:11 thread
|
interesting- I have noticed a lot of repitition of the number 23 in books and other media- the Illuminati Trilogy goes to great lenghts to discuss that #, but it shows up so much that i cannot belive that its some kind of "inside joke" - hell I dont even know many that could sit through the whole damn incoherent book, so I am guessing that when authors need to come up with a date or something that that one is just jumps into their heads or something - but why 23- any ideas or theories?

What about 8:08?? Thats BOB time.
But..the question is....WHO is BOB????? I think everyone has little quirks in their lives like this, scotoma or whatever it's called. Some of us just notice it more than others. However, that you posted the original on Nov. 11 kinda creeps me out... |
I used to have a lot of Hacky Sack playing friends that seemed to disappear at exactly 4:20 everyday.
I wonder what's up with that! very interesting thread, though. |

I've heard that before, but no idea where. ...prolly from a stoner. 808 spells BOB on a digital clock |

HAHAHAHHA I wonder how many people will actually get that joke....:p |
ok, I'll be BOB
|
Ah ha! BOB finally shows himself.
Back when i worked at a Pizza Hut about 2/3 of the kitchen would disappear into the cooler at 4:20 everyday...It was hard to get cheese when you needed it through all that haze. |
Hah, Rider. That one cracked me up. :D
|
I too have noticed this, but what interests me even more is the fact that I was born on 11/11 at 10:10 pm.

4:20 |
I ALWAYS notice 4:20. In fact I like to set every broken clock I find to 4:20.
But back to the quad dicks thing..11:11 1. That's a very simple pattern to see I I I I and I am such very common. 2. Do you ever find yourself counting down to 11:11? I admit that around 3:15 or so I start looking for a 4:20:rolleyes: |
heh.. well im always wakeing up right before the alarm goes off.. man i paid good money for the damn thing.. so i sit there every morning and let it go off to turn it off.. sigh
but the time thing.. im always a quarter with time..and i know when its a quarter of an hour. |
I don't get the 4:20 thing.
Anyhow, what about when you wake up at the exact same time in the morning for a few days in a row? Or in the middle of the night too? Occasionally I get a few days in a row where I wake up at the exact same time in the middle of the night. Either that or my clock is messing with me... |
I think the 11:11 thing is kind of like cars. You always notice one everyone after you have bought a new car, but not many before.
|
i thought this thread was going to be about november 11th. it's a made-up holiday in korea... a sort of 2nd valentine's day created by candy companies.
|
I was born on November 11th at 11:11 a.m. My mom was in room 1111 on the 11th floor of the Alexander the Eleventh Memorial Hospital in Eleven, Ill. Every time I look at a clock, it seems to say 10:45! What's up with that?
