people/presences standing over your bed

When I was with my ex-girlfriend and we were sleeping together, there would sometimes be this strange feeling of someone standing in the corner (tall man, skinny, dark) watching us, or just simply being a presence in the room.

We would both be laying there, half asleep or asleep or awake, sense it, take a deep breath, talk about it, turn on the light or close our eyes tight and wait for it to go away.

We would both also have dreams about things trying to grab us. In fact, the only times she would ever have nightmares was when she was laying next to me. She was quite upset about this, and would never let me forget this ...

One day, I had a dream - more like a series of lucid dreams, where this one woman, this old gypsy like folk woman, kept on coming in and smiling and interrupting whatever was going on. She just kind of smiled and was THERE. In my last dream, I confronted her, and her face became simultaneously a bottomless black pit, and the face of my girlfriend.

I asked her who she was, and she said "YOU KNOW WHO I AM."

I woke up with a start with sleep paralysis, in my room when I was ten years old. I was actually IN that room, startled, with my eyes closed, and feeling this woman lay on top of me. I attempted to scream, but nothing came out (as is typical of sleep paralysis). Eventually, I burst through the paralysis and couldn't go to sleep for the rest of the night.

There are other things that happened between us, too. Like phonecalls with heavy static that would come at five in the morning, tell us about satan, and mail that she would get delivered to her (i.e. bills) that were not meant for her, but were pertinent to the messages on the phone. etc.

I'm not a paranoid billy, and these things only happened with her. I don't know if there is a corrolary, or if there is any folklore associated with this ...

any ideas? any thoughts?

whoaaa. maybe yr girlfriend is a succubus :-x

Well during sleep paralysis it is VERY common to feel a 'presence' in your room. It is also very common to feel as if someone is sitting on your chest. These are just your mind trying to handle being in two different states at once, it is purely your imagination, so nothing to worry about.
As for your ex, she sounds pretty impressionable and jumpy... perhaps someone was messing around with you guys, but it wasn't satan :P Probably just some jealous guy. If she somehow associates you with these strange problems then she's got a few herself, it's all in the mind.

yeah, I know about sleep paralyis ... had it a bunch.

a lot of the feelings were not during sleep p.

the tape messages were stuff that were jumbles of static/voices and pitched down/up/warbly voices that had very particular things that they said. . .

Interesting, still easy to mess with voices though. Wasn't there something like that in the mothman prophecies? What kind of things did the voices say? That would have been a rather interesting experience, but still very easy to fake if you had someone that didn't like you...

it was actually rediculously similar to the mothman prophecies - so much so that we both came home from that shaking ...

the thing that was so strange about the voices thing is that it stopped and began with an object.

Suffice it to say, there was a statue at my school that I touched and felt a cold, electric chill of just 'badness' from. She felt it when I touched her - that night at 5AM, the phonecalls started. Basically like clouds of voices -- that's the best way I can describe it.

backwards, fowards --- etc. Wish I still had the recordings I made, but I deleted them.

The thing that was strangest about it was that the statue had a name - esmerelda - and about a month after this shit started, she started getting mail (legitimate bills from a bank, etc.) that was obviously not forged addressed to an esmerelda, and no esmereldas had lived in that place. Ever, really.

It was a college campus apartment, and a small enough school that we should have known any esmereldas that had been there in the past four or so years.

When we heard that we were to stop looking into it - we did. As soon as we said that, she stopped recieving calls ...

I should go more into it to explain the nuances, but it's rather tricky.

thats rather freaky. Who told you to stop looking into it?

Yeah sleep paralysis has that heavy feeling. Someone standing nearby is common. But why only when with you? There may be a good reason tho. That's all for now, I'll re-read it later, and give more if anymore comes to mind.

hmm in my opinion you should move and break up with her, or at least try moving first. Im a whimp when it comes to things like that. I have a tendency to stay up late at night and sleep during the day, because i keep an out for things in the dark.

Sounds like a typical "Old Hag" experience. It's a pretty common story out there where people experience sleep paralysis and the weight of someone sitting on them. And some people see a, well, an old hag that's doing the sitting. I've read some of these stories on web pages and heard more stories on Coast to Coast AM. I honestly don't believe in the old hag, but thinking about the stories as I lay in bed at night still freaks me out.

hmmm, reminds me of when i would have sleep paralysis and quite often a few years ago.
i don't get them anymore but feeling paralyzed and being in both worlds (dreams & reality) is one of the freakiest stuff i've encountered.
hope you figure your situation out, the way i dealed with it was sleeping sideways or bellyside down.
it's weird, i'd only get those dreams when i slept upside up. all i can say is it's krazy. good times, good times

Well, if this 'person' continues to stop by, you should begin telling them, out loud, to go away. Give thema good reason. They'll go once you've convinced them. Just be nice.
