Sorry don't know how to make it a small word to click on. Interesting information.

Ghosts are just sound?

Small snippet of info... This is an article copied from Wired that I think is a great scientific explanation for what many people have experienced as ghosts. I buy it... maybe you don't.

From Wired.com Sept 8, 2003

Scientists have shown that an extreme bass sound, known as infrasound, produces a range of bizarre effects in people including anxiety, extreme sorrow and chills.

Scientists produced the typically inaudible infrasound with a seven-meter pipe and tested its impact on 750 people at a concert. When the sound was present in the music, over 20 percent of the audience reported more unusual experiences, including feeling uneasy or sorrowful, getting chills down the spine or nervous feelings of revulsion or fear. The audience was not told when the inaudible sound was present.

I merged these two threads, as they are about the same thing.

It's interesting to hear about the effects of low frequency sound on the human body, as it is already known that low-frequency electromagnetic waves can produce visual and auditory hallucinations. This can raise a question about whether some sightings can be explained by a combination of sound an EM waves produced by geological events or something that can produce similar effects. It is possible that it can also be connected to classified military testing and reports of sightings of UFO's and paranormal activity around military bases during tests.

In Tom Clancy's Net Force: Breaking Point (I believe it's that one) there's a whole caper involving extremely low frequency sounds.

Damn, I remember there's something in there about that but can't remember what it is...

Bah everyone trying to debunk ghosts.. You know they exist, so stop trying to fake it ;)

This sounds set-up if you ask me, they need to run real tests, or setup a base in someone's house and when the people say they feel something, then take a reading.. This test is kinda broad.

Well, it's an interesting article, and an interesting question. I've always felt that my paternal grandmother was my guardian angel, and that I could feel and hear her helping me out, but of course, it could have been my subconscious speaking to me about the right/wrong thing to do.
I do believe in ghosts, though. Prolly cuz I want to.

They could be, I've never seen or heard a ghost that I know of.

My friend who was staying in Boston for a while said the house he was staying at was haunted and late at night he would hear lots of really loud thumping and slamming of cupboards and other weird noses.
And he asked everyone else if they heard it too but they said it happens all the time.
Pretty crazy if you ask me.

I bet that has nothing to do with the topic, but meh. :hmm:

Group A - No low-freq. sounds played for them in living quarters.
Group B - Low-freq. Sounds played for them in living quarters.
Double blind test. Heart rate monitor attached 24-7 (one way to measure stress/fear). Have them keep a journal of their feelings and daily events. Set up hidden cameras. Have a frequency monitor for both groups to make sure no "extra" low-freq. sounds interfere with test. Randomly sound off low-freq. sounds to Group B.

I don't believe in ghosts, but I do know that sound can influence us in some pretty strange ways. White noise for example (in conjunction with other things) can be used to achieve a sort of sensory deprivation, and induce a hypnogogic state. Binural beats can theoretically change your state of mind and bring on some pretty strange sensations of movement. Sound is a force that is extremely powerful, you only have to sit in the back of a car full of subwoofers to realize this!
