Dredg
Any Dredg fans on TFP?
I'm pretty excited for their new CD..I've heard clips from songs off of it and it has only gotten me that much more excited. I love Leitmotif and El Cielo and have heard a couple (2 out of 3) of their songs on the Orph EP and I think they are a bunch of talented people. I'd love to see them live but according to their myspace site the closest they are coming to VA is in DC and Charlotte, NC. and that is still a couple hours away either way.

Oh, man. Dredg is one of my favorite bands. Leitmotif and El Cielo are both albums that I can listen all the way through several times in one sitting. I heard some clips from the new album as well and am really excited to hear what else they came up with for the new album. Do you know when it's due out?

Dredg are excellent. El Cielo is surely an excellenet CD, so groovin and rockin at the same time. I've heard the clips for the new album as well and it sounds like typical Dredg, which is a good thing. Can't wait to hear the studio version of Jamais Vu though...

I don't think that Leitmotif was much different in the sound, per se...slightly, but nothing drastic. But, I do think it definitely has more heavy parts throughout. I was just listening to Leitmotif earlier today and remembered how it had a more aggressive feel to it.

^ No those are in order from left to right: Leitmotif, and El Cielo. Both really good. I need to hurry up and get Leitmotif before this new one comes out lol. Also look into that Orph EP as well.
Asta!!

El Cielo is in my top 5 favorite albums. Next to Lateralus, Physical Grafitti, Led Zeppelin IV, and Wish You Were Here. Favorite song has to be Same Ol' road. Something about that song that just makes me all emotional and goes beyond just sounding good. I'm a big fan of progressive, and if anyone know's of good bands, please inform me.

I think Porcupine Tree is along the lines of Progressive however I could be horribly wrong.
album to get would be Porcupine Tree - In Absentia

In Absentia is good, but I prefer Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream (although they are both nearly impossible to buy for less than a small fortune due to being out of print). If you like Dredg, you'll almost definitly like Porcupine Tree, who have a similar, but occasionally much more complex sound. Edit: Also, the Polish band Riverside is pretty similar to Porcupine Tree. If you like PT, check out Riverside. |

The new album is awesome, well at least the first track... anyone know of a release date? I am certainly going buy this one the day it comes out.
--- edit --- Alright, release date is June 21st. That was leaked pretty early then. Most albums aren't leaked untill it's a week before release date. I highly reccomend it to any Dredg fan, awesome album... Last edited by muckluck; 05-22-2005 at 01:51 PM.. |

I just saw Dredg last night in their tour's finale in Hollywood. Holy-effin-wow. I loved Dredg before, but after last night, they're without doubt one of my favorite bands. I don't think I've ever seen a better live show in my life. Those guys are INCREDIBLE. Gavin's voice nearly made me wet my pants.
Also, the new album is fantastic. A lot of people will criticize it because it's structured much differently than Leitmotif and El Cielo, but those people are usually just overly critical, pretentious music snobs. The album is a much tighter collection of traditional "songs" instead of wandering movements filled in with plenty of soaring, experimental instrumental pieces between each song. And though I expect this album will be blown away by their work in the future, that doesn't diminish the fact that Catch Without Arms is one of the year's best albums and a definite must get. It's unfair for people to judge them based on the incredibly high standard and expectations their fans have built for them, but that's just a testament to how good a band they've become over the years. If you ever have a chance to see them live, I highly suggest it. It's quite an experience. And yes, the drummer plays the piano while knocking out the beats, and it is freaking awesome.

I so want to see them live.. really really do..
Lots of there fans have set up high expectations for the new album like you say and it is really unfair..but I still love them none the less. Apparently there are 3 acoustical tracks made in Hyde Street..one that has been released is Bug Eyes..and it is amazing !! http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3...H0QR1BD0KYTR0A enjoy!
