Need advice on MP3 download sites (legal of course)

As time is fast approaching for the wedding (6 more months) I am having a problem.

A lot of the songs we want at our reception are from the 40's to the 90's. Everything from Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Instanbul is Constantinople to AC/DC's You shook me all nite long and Seether's Broken.

I know there are sites out there that you can join (like iTunes). I'd like your recommendations on a site you can join for a monthly price...not a per song price (like iTunes seems to be).

Here is a preliminary play list so you'll see what kind of things we are going to be needing to get burned to a cd.

Broken
Broken Road
Safety Dance
Dont go breaking my heart
White wedding
Time in a bottle
Somewhere only we know
Take a chance on me
Im too sexy
In your eyes
At this moment
Look of love
Behind closed doors
Footloose
Hero
Do you believe in love
Maneater
Long cool woman
Rock and roll hootchie coo
One way or another
Truely madly deeply
Could I have this dance
Through the years
Wonderful tonite
Joy to the world
Boogie woogie bugle boy
Instanbul is constantinople
Crazy little thing called love
Hurt so good
Kiss on my list
Sweet caroline
Copacobana
Forever young
Have i told you lately

I think Napster has a monthly thing where you can download as many songs as you want.

Yeah, but I believe you have to stay a member or the DRM expires and the songs you've downloaded croak. They're not just unencumbered MP3s, they're some magic thing you need a current membership to listen to.

You might try allofmp3.com. The legality is a little questionable and they don't have the biggest catalog on the planet, but you can't beat the price!

there are ways to create unencumbered MP3s from Napster, and when i joined up, they were giving the first month free. A month would be plenty of time to download those tunes. ShaniFaye, i'll check to see how many of those are on Napster this weekend.

I honestly have no desire to deal with Napster.....they killed one too many computers in the past for my taste lol

I had a friend tell me last year about one she used, unfortunately she's off on vacation and I cant get her to text message me back (imagine that lol). She uses it to fill her generic non-ipod and its a monthly membership thing with like 99 downloads a month, or something like that (I think), I just cant remember the name of it.

www.emusic.com I have a subscription to, I beleive the fee is 9.95 a month, and you get 40 downloads - you can always add more on for a small fee. The song quality is good as well. Their catalog though, leans heavily towards blues and jazz -

I think it's walmart that as the ITunes like service at a cheaper rate than ITunes.

AOL also has a music service

I searched emusic....they seem to be small labels etc. Not one song on my list that I searched for came up. So far itunes is the only place I can find them. I thought legally getting mp3s was supposed to be the "thing" now?

iTunes is your best bet if you wanna do the 'legal' thing. They seem to have the largest library and they aren't that expensive.

yeah Guc, I seem to be finding that out. Oh well...I guess 99 cents a song isnt too much for the older songs I want. I wasnt real jazzed about joining just to get songs for the reception anyway....

Here is a site that lists the various download sites: MP3.com List of Music Services. There are reviews of each service. Hope they can help.

I was just wondering if anyone has had any more recent thoughts about this?
