Get off your monkey ass and buy it.

Indeed. 2005 is proving to be one seriously badass year for metal.

Other recommendations:
Cephalic Carnage - Anomalies (an incredible release from these guys, it'll be hard for anyone to top it IMO, even the new Behemoth.)
Behemoth - Demigod (it's Behemoth, do you need any explanation?)
Meshuggah - Catch 33 (not out until the end of May...but still)
Bloodbath - Nightmares Made Flesh (Metal's heaviest supergroup returns)
Blood Red Throne - Altered Genesis (If you liked Affiliated With Suffering it is in the same vein)

Got that from a friend a month or so ago. I'm not familiar with the band at all, but he said I had to hear it. I'm impressed. Is any of their other stuff worth getting?

Good call on Anomalies! Hasn't made it out of my CD player since I got it.

Haven't bought it yet, but what I've heard off of it is good, I probably will pick it up sometime in the future.

Isn't that Mikael Akerfelt from Opeth's other band?

If you like the way Alien sounds, pick up 2003's SYL. The rest of their older material is more industrial, but still intense and heavy and hilarious: City, No Sleep 'Til Bedtime, and Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing.

Was Mikael's other band hehehe. It's almost a new lineup for the new album. The lineup on Resurrection Through Carnage was:
Mikael Åkerfeldt : Vocals
Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström : Guitar
Jonas Renske : Bass
Dan Swanö : Drums

On Nightmares Made Flesh Mike dropped and they brought in Peter Tägtgren from Hypocrisy to do vocals. I think they also rearranged the musicians so Swano and Blakkheim did guitars and Martin Axenrot from Witchery did the drums.

BUT...according to www.bloodbath.biz they will be playing the Nightmares Made Flesh lineup minus Tagtgren and bringing back MIKE!

Quote:

Mike Åkerfeldt - former Bloodbath member with possibly the best death metal voice in the world has stepped up to help the band destroy Wacken on this exclusive one time happening. This is something that you're guaranteed to never see again as Mike will not be rejoining the band in any way apart from committing to this performance.

In related news, Peter Tägtgren has left the band due to conflicting schedules. We thank him for sharing his acclaimed talent and efforts on 'Nightmares Made Flesh'. Bloodbath live at Wacken, Blackstage, Friday August 5th:

Mike Åkerfeldt - Vocals
Blakkheim - Guitar
Dan Swanö - Guitar
Jonas Renkse - Bass
Axe - Drums
All is well with metal now!

i didn't really like this album near as much as City or SYL. SYL has the best production EVER of any metal album.... so monstrous. Anyway, it's decent, but i might be selling it.

mikael IS the best voice in death metal. bar none

Agreed. In fact, he could sing whatever and it would still sound awesome. I present Opeth's "Damnation" as proof :D

If you haven't heard it yet, on the new operatic Ayreon album Mike plays an excellent role. http://www.ayreon.com/thehumanequation/

You know Fourtyrulz, we have a very similar taste in music \m/

gonna have to check out new cephalic... lucid interval was badass... I've kind of fallen out of grindcore a bit though and have been listening to a lot of symphonic power metal (lost horizon, rhapsody) and a lot of metalcore (unearth, deadtofall, agony scene)... lots of "true" metal fans call me poser for liking that shit but I like to think I like all metal, even the commercial sounding stuff :\
