eMOTIVe

Has anyone else picked it up from when it came out on election day? If you have no idea what I'm talking about, eMOTIVe is the new album by A Perfect Circle. Of course it was strategically put out for sale on election day because it was an album designed in light of the recent ... "political happenings" ... in the world. Maynard is trying to promote peace, love and understanding, so it seems. The album is mostly covers, which will surprise you because they dont sound very much like the origional versions of the songs at all. It's a very... different... album, to say the least. I was glad to see Paz Lenchantin back recording with them. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'm a huge APC fan, but no, I haven't picked it up yet. My GF said she was gonna buy it for me but hasn't yet. She likes buying me music. I may just secretly pick it up since I think she forgot about this one. So you like? Were the covers well done? I really like the "Imagine" cover but haven't heard anything else. If you give it mad props, I may have to run out and get it.

Did you also get the Emotion DVD? I think that's mostly remixes of their older stuff?

No I didnt get the DVD... Imagine was pretty good and I really love one of the only origional works on the CD which is Passive, thats a good one. I like the album as a whole, its pretty decent. Not my favorite album of thiers but I still like it.

My freind thinks its too vocal and crappy, but he's just not really into APC's style as much as I am.

I concur with your friend MacGuyver. As much as I *heart* APC I felt that this album was trash. It was unlike any other APC songs, and totally unoriginal.

BTW, what is with all these bands doing covers of other people's songs?!

p.s. I'd still go to an APC concert with you, but I'd MUCH rather see TOOL :-D

Wow, that's a shame. I would think the more vocals the better in this case. I think I'm gonna have to pick this up to form my own opinion.

I've seen both APC and Tool in concert. Both were great but I would have to say Tool is the better show. In fact, it's more than just a concert. It's an experience.

Babe, they were all unorigional because they were all covers! Except one, and a half which was the cover/modification of thier own song from 13th step.

I found eMOTIVe excellent. As Mac mentioned, I think Passive is the best song on the disc, but everything on there is definitely easy on the ears.
It's certainly not my favorite APC album, but hell, but even a mediocre APC album is better than most other masterpieces.

I want to get the album and the DVD. I really like the Imagine cover, but I also really really like the song Counting Bodies. It has an awesome music video to it which you can check out here (warning: real player required) Just click the link at the top to find the music, then look for a tab that says watch.

P.s. on a side note if you hear maynard talking in a video, his voice sounds amazingly similar to that of Jason Lee, aka Brody.

I consider myself more of a Tool fan than an APC fan, though both are great.

That said, I really like this CD. I really like When The Levee Breaks and Annihilation. It isn't a great APC CD, but like twotimesadingo said, even a mediocre CD from them is better than any CD from most other bands.

The DVD on the other hand is wonderful. No remixes, just their videos (some uncensored), and three "Bikini Bandits" trailors.

I thought I was alright, not their best though, like others i really enjoy passive (or vacnt as it was called on the tapeworm project). I also liked when the levee breaks and whats so funny about peace love and understanding.

The CD was pretty good, just not as good as 13th step or Mer de Noms. I think the best tracks are Passive, Let's Have a War, and What's Going on. And their dvd aMOTION looks like a rip off. It looks like it's just a collection of their music videos (The Outsider is censored!!).

While I loved 13th step and mer de noms, this one kinda left me disappointed. Although the cover for Imagine was pretty good.

I am often chilled by the band's interpretation of songs. They are just more dark and forceful. Unlike everyone else in this thread...i was horribly dissapointed by Passive. If you didn't notice...Passive is the studio remake of Vacant...the Tapeworm song that they played live (that pissed Trent Reznor off). It had such balls and a real rock edge to it. they seemed to have softened it up a great deal, they seemed to castrate it, Whether it's the sound they wanted, or maynard was just feeling lazy in the studio that day we'll never know. I'm also not a fan of the second singer on this cd...it's kind of annoying to my ears...was that paz? maybe i should read the liner notes...he he he, i just bought the cd yesterday. however, though i just bitched about the majortiy of the cd, i don't feel it was a waste of 11.99. infact i'd give it a 3.5 just because i admire what they're doing and i see true talent in the band even in this "not as good as the rest" album.

I picked up aMOTION yesterday. It has several really good remixes and some okay remixes on the CD. I watched the DVD and it had all their videos which was great. I still don't know what to think of all the Bikini Bandit stuff. It's wobbling on the verge of cool and lame for me. I was very disappointed when I first saw "The Outsider" video a while back. All their previous videos were very artistic and deep. The Outsider is just a Bikini Bandit video. It has nothing to do with the song and the dialogue is horrible.

The DVD has a Bikini Bandit thing where Maynard is sitting in a hot tub with one of the bandits and they're talking trash about the French. I think it's supposed to be a joke? I don't know, that was a bit weird.

I paid $16 for it and I don't feel like I got ripped off. I guess that's good. I still have mixed feelings about some of the content but overall, I'm glad I picked it up. Hopefully I'll be getting eMotive soon.

I've only heard the covers of "Imagine" and "Peace, Love and Understanding".

They're both absolutely horrible. And I like APC.

, I didn't know Paz Lenchantin was back. I'll definitely have to pick it up now. She's an awesome bassist/guitarist/pianist/violinist/singer (and she's hot to boot).

You should check out her album Yellow mY skYcaptain, its quite good, but its really hard to find, might have to find it on some P2P network.

I listened to the album, it was a little weird, and not that great. It was too soft for my tastes.

It isn't the strongest album I've ever heard but I still enjoy it. The cd is obviously more for making a statement then recieving praise or awards. I'm a huge A Perfect Circle fan and I think they did a nice job with it, but if I get a craving for them I'll usually turn on Mer de Noms or Thirteenth Step first.

I finally picked up emotive. I have to say it was not as good as I hoped. I do like "Passive" and "Imagine". The other tracks were decent but not very memorable. It did not feel like an APC record. It sounded more like a side project of a side project. aMotion was probably a better buy for me personally. Oh well. *shrug*

I didn't dig it at all. I felt none of the covers (of which I'd heard the original version) were very good compared to the originals. Just nothing compared to mer de noms or thirteenth step.
