Me First and the Gimme-gimmes!
I just got turned on to this group by a friend, and love them. I have 7 of their CDs now, and its all cover songs. Their punk versions of "Country Road" and "Fade to Black" are awesome. Anyone else ever heard of them or know of any similar bands?

"Have a Ball" is one of my favorite CDs. I generally don't like cover songs, but for some reason, I like them... "Mandy" is probably my favorite.

Yeah, they do some pretty hilarious covers... I don't think I'd ever spend money on one of their albums, but I'll never say no to hearing a punk rock version of Don't Cry For Me Argentina.

The Gimme Gimmes are made up of Fat Mike from NOFX, the drummer and guitarist from Lagwagon, guitarist from Foo Fighters, and bass player from Swingin' Utters.
They actually have 5 cds (plus eps), the last ones being Take A Break (2003) and Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzah from last week. It's pretty a pretty good live cd. I wish they were touring now, I'd love to see them live. |

I liked them when I first heard them about 4 years ago or so. I bought a couple of their CD's and enjoyed them. Then I saw them at the Warped tour (I don't remember the year) in Tampa. I was looking foward to seeing them since they're a cover band and they could basically play anything they wanted. I was sorely dissapointed. They played the same dozen or so songs that are already on their CDs. Whats the point of that? I mean you are a cover band for the love of jebus! play a different frikin song at the concert. ever since then I just can't bring myself to listen to them anymore.

I dunno, with a strictly cover band, most people go to concerts to here their favorite songs redone. I wouldn't necessarily dislike them for playing to what their audience wants.
