Kings X are a three man band from Houston Texas. Been around since 1987 (why I said I don't know if they're old enough). They are a really good band. They even made VH1's 100 greatest hard rock bands of all time. Heres they're website
<iframe width=600 height=400 src="http://www.kingsxonline.com/"></iframe> They have other sites but I think that one is the actual "official" website for them. They left such an impression on the rock world that when Deep Purple were looking for another frontman, Roger Glover actually asked the lead singer Doug Pinnick if he'd be interested in joining Deep Purple and he turned them down. He said something on the lines of "Well I'm flattered man but I kinda got my own thing going on right now with my band thanx" or something like that. So umm I say check em out I know one of their singles is called "Over My Head" you may like them. Asta!!

update: I've added a couple more names to the list, Boz Scaggs most notable among them.
please feel free to contribute more suggestions. I havent had much time to delve into some of the more obscure artists, but I will eventually.

Thanks for the list, it's good reference material.
One thing though, I notice you have a lot of newer stuff on there too, because it has that classic rock sound. What do you think about those bands that have emerged lately that have a sound similar to that? Like Jet, The Strokes, the Hives, the Darkness, and Velvet Revolver? I think they all have a sort of vintage sound, even though they are out there now. |

a few more suggestions for inclusion:
p-funk (parliament-funkadelic) should be on the list---for their early stuff (through america eats its young--great guitar band in the funkadelic guise...) i would suggest soft machine again. for your head, sir. for everyone's head. the first two albums. popmusic as headfuck. gong: totally necessary. they were a great great strange strange band...their early stuff in particular, through the teapot gnome trilogy. they were not as big in the states as in europe. but their recordings are worth tracking down. daevid allen: the first guitarist from gong, espcially his "banana moon" record, which is a classic acid mothers temple. for guitar-driven music, they are the best i have seen in years. they single-handedly made me remember why i liked rock in the first place. maybe they could help you, if your faith in all this starts to flag. if you are interested in checking out obscure to astonishing psych records (and other stuff)--including (in one previous 2 or 3 numbers of the "room") a great quicksilver messenger service track, go here: http://www.acidmothers.com/Cgi-bin/m...ame/index.html

"Chilliwack (who?)"
Canadian rock band. Check out the song "Fly at night" "Creation (used the violin bow before jimmy page)" Check out the song "making time" "Electric Prunes (make an argument)" EGAD! one of the greatest of the late 60s psych era. I had Too much to Dream. "Strawberry Alarm Clock (make an argument)" ditto. Incense and peppermints "Chocolate Watch Band (who?)" ditto again. "13th Floor Elevators (who?)" and again. "Kim Mitchell/Max Webster (make an argument)" More Canadian rock. Hangover/Patio Lanterns/Soda "Lighthouse (who?)" oh my god. you don't know lighthouse? Pretty Lady? One Fine Morning??? Very good stuff. "Vanilla Fudge (make an argument)" *gasp!* one of the most important "rock/blue eyed sould bands" i.e. the authors of "You Keep Me Hanging On" "Moby Grape (make an argument)" Out of this world. "Starcastle (who?)" You've got to know Prog to know this band... |

Big Star = influential power pop act from Memphis in the early 70s. (Power pop meaning similar to the type of music Cheap Trick made, although they had a really different sound; the theme song from "That 70s Show", In the Street, was actually a song off of their first album, #1 Record, that Cheap Trick covered for the show).
J.J. Cale = white blues rocker who greatly influenced Clapton and Knopfler and others; wrote After Midnight, Cocaine, Call Me the Breeze, Travelin Light Wet Willie = southern rock band; biggest song was "Keep on Smilin"

Other possibilities:
Boz Scaggs Robert Palmer (I'm thinkin "Sneakin Sally Through the Alley", "Bad Case of Lovin' You", and the cover of "Sailin' Shoes", not his cheesy 80s stuff) Dave Mason ("We Just Disagree", "Feelin' Alright" (although his original version was with Traffic)) John Mellencamp Jimmy Buffett Bryan Adams (cringe)

Cruzados are gonna be hard to find. Not a very well known band. If I had to compare them to anyone current...maybe Los Lonely Boys.

I've dispensed with two of the appendices. suffice it to say that if one of your suggestions isnt on the updated list, it wasnt overlooked or ignored. no offense intended, I just didnt deem them to fit.
