Indian Movie Music- Kal Ho Na Ho
I came across a CD of the movie, Kal Ho Na Ho. In India, every once in a while a film will hit huge, and before you know it, you can't go anywhere without hearing the songs from the movie blaring out of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Well, apparently Kal Ho Na Ho was such a soundtrack. I really like the pop song Mahi Ve. But, I don't think much of the remix of Pretty Woman or the It's Time to Disco.
But, what is magical on the soundtrack is the instrumental music and the theme song Kal Ho Na Ho. Truly beautiful. This haunting minor scale melody. One of the cool things about Indian movie music is the use of a variety of instruments from every culture in the world. The more I listen to the orchestrations, the more I am blown away. Apparently, the songwriting team is three guys, Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy. So, anyone feeling adventurous about checking out another musical genre, this is a good taste of really good Indian movie music. AND, if anyone has discovered any other soundtracks that rise above the usual predictable Indian movie music soundtracks, pass that along. I'd love to know about some more great Indian music. |
