Velvet Revolver
Any one hear their song yet?
I heard it a couple times over the weekend, didn't catch the title though. It sounds so much like STP, like early STP. The CD is supposed to come out in June. Can't wait to hear of the CD. |

They had a few songs out about a year ago. One of em was on The Hulk soundtrack, called "Set me Free" or something.
It's Scott Weiland, Slash, Duff, Matt Sorum.. and I don't remember who played guitar. I don't think it was Gilby Clarke/Izzy though. In other words: GNR with Scott Weiland instead of Axl.

Early STP made some great music. I was listening to their self titled second album recently, and it's amazing how much they sound like Zeppelin to me sometimes (well, aside from Weiland's voice being not similar to Plant's at all).

They aren't too bad, but Scott Weiland kinda scares me in the new video, lol, if you haven't seen the video yet, you'll see what I mean when you do.

Sounds like a great band, but 2 things make me wonder how long it will last.
1) How soon before Weiland starts getting back on the smack and starts acting like AXL? 2) Wonder what and how soon AXL will try to do to get the G-N-R gang back?

I always said that the worst part about GNR was Axl. My own opinion, and I'm sorry to say 'cause I know alot of people like his voice, but I think his voice sucks. Guns and Roses with a real singer.... now that's Velvet Revolver!

It's not like GNR and it's not like STP. I guess at times it sounds like heavier STP, but at no point does it ever really sound like GNR.
Hard to explain.. It's kinda like how Audioslave isn't anything like Soundgarden or Rage Against the Machine. Check out "Slither" and "Big Machine"

Picked it up yesterday and have only had a chance to listen to it once so far. Sounded good the first time through though. I'v liked what I heard on their site a while back as well.
I've heard they're putting on a great show these days too. Too bad they're coming nowhere near here.

Excellent outcome of two very prominent bands. On one side you have Slash, Duff and Matt Sorum ex-Gunners, on the other you got Scott with his great voice, how can you go wrong? This is by far an excellent band and can't wait to see what they have in store for us. This very well maybe the return of Rock, which is needed!

This CD gets better each time I listen to it.
It might not be revolutionary in terms of rock music, but it's goddamn good! Really, there isn't a more perfect combination than ex-GNR members and Weiland. They're also gonna be in town next week for a concert! They'll definitely be in the top 10 for next week's Billboard charts.. hell, I'd be surprised if they weren't in the top 5.

I've been looking forward to this CD since they announced the formation of the band, and I've been Really excited since Set Me Free came out, and I haven't been disappointed yet. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.
It's not really GN'R, it's closer to STP, but it just rocks so damn hard. *gets goosebumps* This is a textbook example of what ROCK should be. Here's to many years, and many albums.

This CD was well worth the 12.99 cost on Tues @ 10am rusing there after my morning summer class from campus.
Each time that I listen to it, it just gets better. I wouldnt say it sounds like either band, but its a good sound indeed.

Heard the first track and like that swinging riff. Kinda like a funky James Bond bit.
And not a minute to soon. Was starting to wonder if all music these days was about talking instead of singing, crotch grabbing and women shaky their asses as fast as possible.

I''ve only heard the first single (Slither, I think it is, right?) a couple of times, and I have to say that, while I like it ok, it isnt really impressing me. It sound exactly how I expected a band with Slash on guitar and Weiland on vocals to sound (ie. very much like GnR with a different singer). Perhaps the better songs are buried deeper in the cd (typical of most hard rock albums) but if the single is the best they got, then I predict a quick fade after a year or two.
I hope Im wrong about that, too. Im a big fan of both GnR and STP, so I want these guys to keep putting out the tunage. And maybe I just need to listen to the whole cd, but like I said, the single isnt blowing me away. Still, its good to have some new hard rock out there. Seems like most of the new hard rock is in the hardcore (death/speed metal) genres, which dont interest me.

I've heard the first single and I've seen the video. The song definitely sounds cool. The melding of these two "groups" seems to have worked out OK.
VH1 actually had a reality-show in the works based around Velvet Revolver finding a singer. The ex-G'n'R dudes had started playing together and then they started auditioning vocalists. Only guy I know of that applied other than Weiland was Sebastian Bach. Got nothing against Sebastian Bach, but Velvet Revolver would seem almost comical with him as the frontman. By the way, the second Stone Temple Pilots record is titled "Purple". |

Just aquired the album, and Audioslave it is not, I hate Audioslave and Velvet Revolver sounds nothing like them.
The only downfall that I can see with this album is the fact that Slash continues to try and relive the old G'N'R days with his whinny, done before solo's, which is terrible because he is a great guitar player, just knock off the boring, uninspired solo's. But yeah, great album I reccommend anyone to aquire it.

The videos sound good, I don't remember what music videos I've seen, but they were good. I "obtained" their CD and I couldn't get into it at all, and I loved STP and GNR. It just sounded so generic.
