Aphex Twin

Does anyone like Aphex Twin? I think he is such a genius. His hot beats and weird gremlin voices make my day complete.

I enjoy a lot of Aphex Twin's music, but a lot of it turns me off as well. I like about 60% of the songs.

I'll take Oakenfold or BT over Aphex Twin 7 days a week, IMO.

Yeah, this band is pretty cool, seen their video a couple times. Cracks me up. What does the rest of their music sound like?

Richard D James is an amazing artist. (That is the one and only behind Aphex Twin, as well as many other side projects).
The pop stuff (which isn't really pop ) he makes is incredibly inspiring, and his more experimental is completely... mental... and yet, if you listen, there is always something ingenious to hear.

I never really like to put people down... but Oakenfold and BT are complete morons in the shadow of Mr James. Simple, formula based, boring music for simple minds. Not that music needs to be chaotic or incredibly complex to be good, and alot of Aphex Twins's material shows that as well.

If you like Aphex's
harder stuff (like Come To Daddy).. check out Venetian Snares
or if you like his more upbeat (but still full on) material, check out Bogdan Raczinski
and of course, Squarepusher is Richard D James' illegitimate son.

Oakenfold and BT have nothing on Aphex Twin. Richard D James has done and continues to do music that reaches such a wide spectrum of electronic creativity that there is no comparison.

The Richard D James album of course is a good introduction album to Aphex Twin.

RDJ is awesome. I have most his stuff (everything I can get my hands on).. it's so varied, yet almost everything is good (everyone has their dislikes)

SM70 was right about videos. If you haven't seen them, check them out. Especially Come To Daddy and Windowlicker, although I don't really mind On. Not a fan of Ventolin.

RDJ album is a great introduction.. but his stuff is so varied it's difficult to say "this sums up his style". One album could be completely different to the next, and while RDJ album does show his variety, it doesn't show everything he can do.

Isn't that a bit like saying "I'll take Herman's Hermits or Donovan over Velvet Underground 7 days a week"?

I have to be in the right mood for Aphex Twin. He hurts my head if I'm not keyed up enough to be in sync with the music.

I usually listen to stuff that's more in the downbeat, chill, ambient vein.

You could be trolling but if you think all of Aphex Twin's work is "cheesy elevator music w/ techno beats", you obviously need to listen to more of his stuff.

Selected Ambient Works is the downbeat, chill, ambient electronica album ^_^

And calling Aphex Twin cheesy elevator music is trolling like woah. Or you just have no sense of taste at all.

Aphex Twin is great, though I've really only listened to the RDJ album. I've also only seen the Windowlicker video. Anyone know where on the net I could find the Come To Daddy video? I hear it's pretty crazy.

I would actually recommend going out and dropping some dough on the DVD "The Chris Cunningham Collection". It's got "Come to Daddy", and "Windowlicker" as well as some really amazing videos for Portishead and Bjork and some others. Well worth it.
