Who isn't? I was surprised to see that he scored the film "The Secret Window"....very well done....but "Music In Twelve Parts" is a personal favorite.

Music in 12 Parts is one of my favorites too. Well, pretty much everything he wrote is a favorite. The one work that I love the most, however, is his score to Koyaanisqatsi. That was the first CD that I bought of his. Loved it since I bought it. |

If you like Glass, you might also want to try Steve Reich.
I don't know enough about their music to be able to back this up, but a music teacher I had once said that Phillip Glass is to Steve Reich as Green Day is to the Ramones. Last edited by balderdash111; 03-17-2004 at 08:18 AM.. |

From the little I've heard of him, yes. I came to my school one year too late though....the year before I came here we did the North American Premeire of Glass's opera "The Marriages Between Zones Three, Four, and Five"

Kundun is great too.
Also, if you guys have liked Koyaanisqatsi, try the other two, Powaqqatsi and (the other one, ending is -tsi). And if you like that, there is a play called all in the timing which has a short section that has "Philip Glass buying a loaf of bread" and it is incredible, if done right. Sounds like a philip glass with the repeating minimalist actions. Not to mention it is hilarious if you are a PG fan. |

I love Philip Glass!
He came to our campus many years ago, and I got to hear him give a talk, followed by our orchestra playing some of his compositions...amazing. If you haven't already, check out Songs From Liquid Days, his collaboration with some amazing lyricists (Paul Simon, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, and Suzanne Vega) |
