Industrial...sweet metallic hard metal to my ears. I like Fear Factory myself..some say NIN is the birth of industrail
|
Fear Factory is one amazing band, definatly in my top 3. Go see em live @ the Jagermeister tour like me :)
|
nin birth of industrial.... lmao.
throbbing gristle.. and perhaps WIRE .. would be the origin of industrial as far as I know.. then there were bands like Front 242, Nitzerebb, Skinny Puppy, Xymox,KMFDM,Front line assembly, meat beat manifesto, chris and cosy, Split Second, ... I could go on and on. anyhow..yeah.. i still listen to some Industrial.. but more on the metal side.. but I listened to alot of it back in the late 80's early 90's |

Yeah, I remeber listening to Throbbing Gristle and Xymox back in the mid-late '80's. I'll never forget the look on my wife's face a few years ago as she walked in while I was listening to Throbbing Gristle's Hamburger Lady. |
I think NIN helped bring it more into the minds of more people, but yeah, birth of, not so much.
|
NIN didn't really start Industrial, they just brought it mainstream (if there is such a thing)
|
Nitzer Ebb was always my favorite in that catagory. Join in the Chant, Lightning Man, Warsaw Ghetto, Control, I'm Here. Some great songs.
|
i am a big fear factory fan. havent really gotten into the other bands named except NIN, but i absoultelly love fear factory.
|
Industrial!!!!!
Electric Hellfire Club
Die Krupps Pig And even though NIN didn't start it, they did it better than anyone else. |
It has been a while since I've listened to industrial on a regular basis, thanks for reminding me of Nitzer Ebb's join in the chant...
Tack<head was one that I used to listen to all the time Skinny Puppy, Ministry, 1000 Homo DJs, NiN, KMFDM (Godlike absolutely rocks)... as others have written, the list goes on Most of my stuff is on vinyl and I no longer own a turntable... I used to play this stuff in univeristy when I had my own radio show. |
Rammstein and Orgy great bands :). Highly reccomended
|
<-- longtime industrial fan :)
It's been a while since I've listened to it though :/ /me makes a mental note to watch this thread for download ideas Skinny Puppy was always a favorite of mine (meaning, hardcore listener and collector. I've got a couple rare things..) Other favorites...(applying the 'industrial' tag a bit loosely perhaps..) KMFDM, Front 242, Godflesh cool points given to anyone else who likes them!, Ministry, NiN *cringe*....I ADORE Trent but i've never been comfortable with the 'industrial' tag on his music, ChemLab, Fear Factory, Front Line Assembly, Coil, ... that's all i can think of at the moment. :) |
I need somebody to define "industrial" for me, I've heard a lot of band names that can me "industrial" that I just consider hard rock or metal. What does it take to be an industrial band?
|
I've always thought of industrial as music that is really loud and uses a lot of sampling (especially of industrial machines like jackhammers, power drills, etc.)
einsturzende neubauten and trobbing gristle were the start of the movement for me... LINK Quote:

Got into industrial a couple years ago (damnit, I was born in the wrong era).
Godflesh, Ministry, Suicide Commando, Wumpscut, KMFDM, Fear Factory, Chemlab... yeah... |
Fear Factory, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Front 242 (Welcome to Paradise is IMHO the best song in the entire genre), and NiN are awesome.
|
nin
ministry white zombie orgie crystal method rammstein filter had a few good industrial songs as well.... |
I used to listen Industrial way back when it was actually good. Most of the shit out today is shit. Fear Factory and Crystal Method industrial? :hmm:
|
Ministry - So What is one of the greatest songs ever.
|
Ministry
KMFDM Pig NIN Good stuff! |
I have been listening to Industrial for 13 years. My favorite still is Skinny Puppy.
Some others: Older ministry Chemlab God flesh Kmfdm (nihil is in my car's stereo at the moment Pigface NIN is good. I hesitate calling them full industrial. Fear Factory is cool But they resemble metal more than industrial IMHO. |
Nine Inch Nails isn't industrial to you guys? I guess Pretty hate Machine was much more poppy '80s synth, but still, Downward Spiral makes up for that, surely?
|
Don't get me wrong. I like NIN but something I can't put my finger on causes me to hesitate calling them full on industrial.
|
Anybody ever get into Captain Beefheart?

Wax Trax records in Chicago was putting out Industrical albums for years before NIN showed up on the scene.
I used to be hugely into Ministry, and still like some tracks from Revolting Cocks, 1000 Homo DJ's and the like. Front 242 as well. |
One of my coworkers used to live in Chicago and worked for Wax Trax in the early days. She met Al J...(whatever his last name is nowdays).
To Hat: No problem. I understood where you are coming from. I just can't seem to put it into words. :) |
No one here has mentioned My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

I've never thought of Fear Factory as industrial. I guess the category works for them though. They're definitely not death metal (which many people used to say they were).
Ministry is the best industrial ever. Psalm 69 is still one of my most listened to albums. |
Ministry favorite albums:
1) The mind is a terrible thing to taste 2) The Land of Rape and Honey 3) Psalm 69 Favorite songs: So what Jesus Built My Hotroad The Land Of Rape And Honey Stigmata (there's so much more I am forgetting) Edit: Fixed my fuck up |

Wow! Don't post when you are half asleep. LOL :)
Going to change that. I'm going to beat myself sensless for getting megadeth and ministry confused. *bangs head into wall* |
Never much got into industrial outside of NIN (which I wouldn't classify as industrial, either). Although, Ministry and KMFDM aren't bad, and the guy that does all of KMFDM's album art is awesome. Skinny Puppy and Oghr (I think what his new project was called) aren't that bad, either.
