Your "first dance" song at your wedding

Just curious what other people picked for their first dance song at their wedding. My wife blew me away because she picked "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin. She was never a big Zep fan, and I love them. She said she heard it on the radio in the car one day and wanted it for our song.
"If the sun refused to shine, I would still be lovin' you, when mountains crumble to the sea, there would still be you and me"

Damn if it was right 16 years ago and still right today! God, I love that woman!

Ours was "Truly, Madly, Deeply" by Savage Garden. It hit home for us, because way before that song came out, he wrote me a poem about swimming in the ocean and being on a mountain together.

"Til There Was You" - The Beatles version (originally from "The Music Man").

It was a toss up between that and "The Best is Yet to Come" by Sinatra, but the Beatles won out.

No, I'm not old. I got married in '97!

I'll tell you after the fact. I don't want to read about people saying how shitty the song is. Same reason when I eventaully have akid I won't tell any names until after he/she is born.

We couldn't agree on a song, so we ended up choosing "We've Only Just Begun," by the Carpenters. One of my choices was "You Had Me From Hello" (Kenny Chesney), and we ended up using that as the wedding party dance.

Ours was "At Last" by Etta James, which at the time I thought was pretty unique. I have since come to find that it is a pretty cliched wedding song. Oh well, it was nice.

We did the same thing with our son, which pissed off all the relatives. But, everyone says they like the name now.

Our first dance was "Longer", by Dan Fogelberg. We also used "If I Could" by Phish as a later slowdance, which we both find realisticly romantic, but would have required too much explaination for other people.

That was in the running for our upcoming wedding this June cause it's such a great song but in the end Ben Harpers "Forever" won out because of personal meanings to us.

"I'd rather stay in bed all day. In bed with you lying closely right by my side. With no one to make us take one step outside. Under the covers with you. I'd rather pull the sheets over our heads. So we wouldn't have to face the day, no way. Just lie in bed naked.

Our wedding song was "I Love You" by the Climax Blues Band.

The first verse says it all:

When I was younger man I hadn't a care,
Foolin' around, hitting the town, growing my hair.
You came along and stole my heart when you entered my life.
Ooh babe you got what it takes so I made you my wife.

(And 17 years later, she still has what it takes)

Ours was "The Very Thought of You" by Nat King Cole. All of our wedding music was in the Big Band/Crooner motif. I didn't want to see one damn Funky Chicken or Electric Slide on our wedding day.

Our first dance was "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge.

Not my first choice, but it made my wife happy. I was hoping for something more along the lines of "Girls, girls, girls" by Motley Crue, but nooooooo...........

"At My Most Beautiful" by REM

(chorus)
I’ve found a way to make you
I’ve found a way
A way to make you smile

I read bad poetry
Into your machine
I save your messages
Just to hear your voice
You always listen carefully
To awkward rhymes
You always say your name,
Like I wouldn’t know it’s you,
At your most beautiful

(repeat chorus)

At my most beautiful
I count your eyelashes, secretly
With every one, whisper I love you
I let you sleep
I know you’re closed eye watching me,
Listening
I thought I saw a smile

(repeat chorus)

But we came very close to using "I Will" by the Beatles (which we liked because it was very very short)

Who knows how long I've loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to--I will.

For if I ever saw you
I didn't catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same.

Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart.

And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
You know I will
I will.

Funny you mention that, I was shooting for "I'm just a gigolo"

I told my wife that no matter what, our wedding song was going to be a Springsteen song, which one was negotiable. We used "Two For The Road"

It's one for the money and one for the show
I got one kiss for you honey so come on let's go
I didn't see it coming but girl now I know
It takes one for the running but two for the road

One thousand dreams whispered in the dark
But a dream's just a dream in one empty heart
It takes more than one to rev it up and go
So let's get it running, we're two for the road

Two one-way tickets and a diamond ring
Hell it don't matter what the rain might bring
When this world treats you hard and cold
I'll stand beside you, we're two for the road

When you're alone my love'll shine the light
Through the dark and starless night
I'll hold you close and never let you go
C'mon now girl 'cause we're two for the road
Well it's two to get ready, babe, c'mon let's go
Me and you, girl, we're two for the road

never been married, but when that day comes it will be the acoustic verison of Everlong, by the Foo Fighters.

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I throw myself into
And out of the red out of her head she sang

Come down and waste away with me
Down with me
Slow out you wanted it to be
Over my head, out of my head she sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She said

Breathe out
So I can breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head out of my head i sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She said

And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

"Take my Breath Away" by Berlin .... it was the Remixed version though. Basically, it was our song the entire time we were dating... so it was the logical choice.

Me and my SO have definitely talked about this, and we definitely want Puddle of Mudd's "Control" to be our song. Just so that when we're old and have kids or grandkids it would embarass the living crap out of them if we slowdanced to it at our 50th wedding anniversary or something like that.

I'll Be--Edwin McCain

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
And emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth

And Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

And I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be loves suicide
And I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

And rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
And you're my survival, you're my living proof
My love is alive and not dead

And tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

And I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be loves suicide
And I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

And I dropped out, I burned up, I fought my way back from the dead
I’m tuned in, I turned on, remembered the thing that you said

And I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be loves suicide
And I'll be better when I'm older

I have to say Alyssa, that song might have been on our list if it was around when we got married. A little side note: When I first heard that song, I encouraged my wife to go to Edwin's free concert at a festival in our area. I told her that she had to hear that song because it was still how I felt after all these years. When he played it, we got up and danced by the stage along with a few other couples and my wife was crying the whole time.
GREAT SONG THAT SAYS IT ALL!
