Just saw Prince in concert at the House of Blues and although his entire band was filled with great musicians and it was great to see Prince live, I have to ask, "What happened to the old Prince"?

He played acid jazz and fusion for the whole hour and a half he preformed and didn't even start to play anything close to his old hits.

Why?

I know he's a Jehovah's witness now and that with all his new CD's are going in wildly different directions, but can't he play just a few older songs in concert.

I hope that it has something to do with his contractual problems with Warner (maybe he can't legally play his old hits?) and that it's not a conscious decision on his part to not play his hits. Because if the latter's the case then he's gotta know he's dissapointing his fans.

Maybe he justs wants to play the songs he wants to play and not the ones fans always wanna hear?

I don't know. I know nothing of Prince or his music, but if he's a Witness, then that wouldn't surprise me at all. Maybe he regrets making all those songs, and chooses to have his life go in a different direction.

Well Prince is a very very very musically talented guy. One of my dad's friends has seen him record in the studio before and that guy is into all sort of music, so he's pretty much probably playing in his realm still.

I'm all for Prince experimenting, because I pretty much dig anythin avant garde or hyper-experimental, but not at the cost of talent as great as Prince's

Maybe if he had done some of the crotch grabbing he would have had to play some Purple Rain with it.


I agree that Prince is talented. In fact I think he's a musical genius (I mean a true genius which is probably why he's a little eccentric) and I am all for him experimenting.

But this is the first time I've gotten to see Prince live. So I wanted to hear some of my favorites performed live and I have to admit I was dissapointed when he didn't perform any of them.
