Favorite REM song?
Im not a real big fan, but I do like them for the most part. I was listening to this song The Sweetness Follows and I love it. I think it might be my favorite REM song, but Im not sure. Anyone else have a favorite REM song?
|
One of two:
"I Believe" from Pageant or "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight" from Automatic Depends on mood |
Wow, that's hard.
"World Leader Pretend" or "I Remember California" from Green "Country Feedback" from Out of Time "Swan Swan H" from Life's Rich Pageant |
I'm not a huge REM fan but I've always loved Nightswimming from the first time i heard it.
|
Really, anything from Automatic For The People will fit the bill, but I'll go for "Find The River."
|
I like "Losing My Religion."

Hope from Up or Country Feedback off of Out of Time
|
I can't pick one
So. Central Rain Fall On Me Finest Worksong The One I Love The Untitled song on 'Green' |
I would say either Electrolite (from New Adventures...) or Driver 8 (from Fables of the Reconstruction).
However, my favorite "almost REM" song would be "Photograph" which was sung by JMS and Natalie Merchant, written by the latter. |
Not a big REM fan, but I've always liked "Everybody Hurts". And "It's the End of The World" is a classic song.
|
just came across my rem mp3 collection
my favs would have to be man on the moon, its the end of the world, losing my religion, stand, everybody hurts, the great beyond and i am partial to their newie 'bad day' |

And the interesting thing about "Losing My Religion" is that it's one of the few mainstream hits featuring a mandolin as the lead instrument. |

Same here. Don't really know why I like it. But everytime I hear it, it always gets stuck in my head for a couple of hours. |
How is it possible that so many people don't really like R.E.M.? I absolutely love them, and it would be very difficult to pick a favorite, but some of my favs are:
Carnival of Sorts (Chronic Town cd) Radio Free Europe, Shaking Through (Murmur cd) Rockville, So. Central Rain (Reckoning cd) Driver 8, Wendell Gee (Fables of the Reconstruction cd) I Believe, Fall On Me (Lifes Rich Pageant) Exhuming McCarthy, End of the World..., King of Birds (Document) You Are the Everything, "Untitled #11" (Green) Radio Song, Belong (Out of Time) Nightswimming, Find the River (Automatic for the People) New Test Leper, Bittersweet Me (New Adventures in Hi-Fi) That's 20 songs already, I should just stop here :) |
Lotus, Diminish, E-Bow the Letter, Undertow, You, Circus Envy, Sweetness Follows, Find the River . . .
. . . to name some of the more recent. |
This is hard.. REM has many a great songs, many of which are my favorites.. but I'll say "The One I Love" because for me that's the most fun to cover.
|
I'd have to say Nightswimming, End of the World and Everybody Hurts
|
Country Feedback
Find the River Imitation of Life Cayahoga (sp?) Unplugged 2 !! |

R.E.M. is one of my favorites bands. My hands-down favorite is the immortal "Orange Crush." It was played so much on the radio during my childhood (and by my mom). Whenever I hear that song, it reminds me of my grungy childhood. The song is perfection. Melodic!
I also like "Losing My Religion," "Stand," and "It's the End of the World As We Know It." I know that one by heart. Fun to sing to if you know the lyrics. "To the One I Love" and "What's the Frequency, Kenneth" are excellent too. |
What's the Frequencey, Kenneth?
|
Having heard their 8 most well known songs, give or take a song, my pick is "Bang and Blame". Either "Losing My Religion" or "Nightswimming" would be second.
|
Nightswimming has been my favorite REM song for a long time
|
So many young people here! My goodness. I had to get down 10 posts before anyone when back before Pageant. Heck, even I didn't go that far back, but as long as I/m posting, let me add a few:
Harborcoat or Little America (Reckoning) Sitting Still (Murmur) Ages of You (DLO) Auctioneer (Fables - a truly awesome album) Lightning Hopkins (Document) After Document, they got really hit and miss for me. I loathe Green and Out of Time, and Automatic and Monster seem to me to be attempts (occasionally successful) to recapture their energy of old. |
"everybody hurts"
|
"whats the frequency kenneth"
|
sweetness follows & nightswimming...
|
letter never sent.
so. central rain.. .. alot of them have been mentioned.. but .. there are so many other great songs that were not mentioned. great band. |
Texarkana
|
bang and blame
|
hmmmmm
the sidewinder sleeps tonight or nightswimming |
Don't want to make all the old farts on here feel even older but Murmur is 21 years old now. I sometimes still think of REM like they just came out.
The first time I heard them was a college friend of my sisters playing Pageant and not believing that there was music that was that good. I immediately blew all my birthday money on the cassette. When I discovered that they had stuff already out I was one happy adolescent. Favorites: Camera, These Days, Most all of Automatic for the People |
E-bow the letter or losing my religion, both songs rock hard.
