1- Biggie
2- Tupac 3- Wu Tang 4- Slick Rick (no slick on your list !?!) 5- Ice Cube 6- Brand Nubian (Sadatx) 7- Run D.M.C. 8- L.L. Cool J 9- Eric B. and Rakim 10- Public Enemy Also: Jungle Brothers and De La Soul and Beastie Boys And I'm deffinitely not set in stone on the order although Biggie and Tupac would always be at the top (I know it's the popular thinking that calls Biggie and Tupac the best rappers of all time, but I tend to agree with that notion). |

1) Eminem
2) Ludacris 3) DMX 4) Nelly 5) Jay-Z 5) Nas 7) Dr. Dre 8) Talib Kweli 9) 50 Cent 10) Outkast Honorable Mention: Fat Joe Having both Jay-Z and Nas at #5 was no mistake, by the way. Plus I like Tupac and Biggie, don't get me wrong, but they're already labeled as the greatest ever and they're going to be on most everyone else's list.

In general, I tend to agree with lions20, however, there are some exceptions. I don't know if I can make a credible top ten out of it, but I'll give it a shot.
1 - Neal Peart (Raps in "Roll the Bones") 2 - Weird Al Yankovic - (It's All About the Pentiums) 3 - Tom Waits - (I think "Fillipina Box Spring Hog" counts as rap) 4 - Will Smith (Does more to end racism just by being than Al Sharptoon and Jessie Jackson combined - clever rapper too) 5 - Eminem - ("Lose Yourself" actually gave him some credibility) 6 - Jam Master Jay - (It would be unkind, untrue, and moderately amusing to say, "because he's dead," so I'll say that it is because he demonstrated the way a rapper could live without being a dirtbag.) 7 - Mix-a-Lot (Funny) 8 - Ice-T (has a hardcore band. Handled the whole Cop Killer incident well) 9 - Digital Underground (Funny) 10 - Tupac (Dead. Still putting out albums. Years later.) Edit: I was thinking about this after I posted, and there are a couple more rappers to who I believe props must be issured. 3½ - Kid Rock 6½ - The Beastie Boys (License to Ill is the album that made Rap music to White America) 9¼ - Ton Loc (Made the same song a hit twice, changing almost nothing but the name.) 9½ - Colin Quinn (Goin' Back to Brooklyn. 'Scuze me. I don't tink so.) 9¾ - LL Cool J (Good name, and, as an actor, a poor man's Ving Rhames. Also, allowed Colin Quinn his one moment of true humor.) There's more, including a number of rappers I think the world would be better of (or is better off) without, but this is a thread for those who like rap. Take the above as my admiration of the form and continue with your bad selves. Edit again: Couple more I missed in no particular order: Falco - German Rap. Gotta love it. The Bloodhound Gang.

This is my current top ten the people on this list move up and down according to how I'm feeling on any given day.

Tupac Shakur
Outkast
Notorious B.I.G.
A Tribe Called Quest
The Roots
Ludacris
L.L. Cool J
Public Enemy
Jay-Z
Busta Rhymes
Honorable mention goes to the following: Mos Def, The Jurassic-5, Naughty By Nature, Snoop Dogg, Wyclef Jean, Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, and Run DMC. Most of the people in my honorable mention list (excluding Snoop) I haven't heard enough of their music to figure out where I would place them in my favorites of all time list.

Jay-Z is so low because I after The Dynasty his records just seem, different. And not in a good way. Honorable mentions to Black Eyed Peas and Nate Dogg, I consider both more R & B though excluding them from competition.

I like The Streets, but I would classify it more as Garage than rap, along with Dizzee Rascal. The thing the Streets have is he really does speak for a whole generation - "Weak Become Heroes" feels like it really could have been written about my life

Nas destroyed Jigga's legacy in hip hop IMO.
It was silly of him, cos Nas was whack, finished, until Jigga called him out and made him mad - so Nas came back and proved he could record a track that Jigga couldnt touch. The difference between them? Think "I know I can" vs "Hard Knock Life"; thik "New York State of Mind" vs riiping off some Pac track or being all over MTV cos you is fucking one of Destiny's Child. Nas destroyed Jay Z and left him with nothing but MTV and billboard
