upcoming concert thread
concept of this thread is simple: as soon as you know of a concert you're going to, post about it, and when it's done, edit and share with us how it was.
I'll start off with mine: IRON MAIDEN (January, Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC, with Arch Enemy) THIS ONE WAS INCREDIBLE!!! Arch Enemy were excellent as usual, though at one point Angela dropped her mic off the stage and that sort of ruined the song going on. Oh well, still good. MAIDEN though... jesus what else can i say but INCREDIBLE. Bruce came RIGHT over to where i was several times, it kicked ass. Just an amazing show, one of the best I've ever seen, even better than last time I saw them. Just awesome. MODEST MOUSE (February, Irving Plaza, NYC) These guys are one of my favorite bands and from what i've heard they put on an AMAZING live show, so i'm fairly certain that this one will not disappoint.

Jan, 9 - Three Doors Down, Tantric, Shinedown. TDD put on a good show, but I'm really psyched about seeing Tantric. I haven't seen them live before.
Jan, 30 - The Big Wu (Amazing Live show!) A jam band from Minnesota (or Wisconsin) that are just fantastic. In a small club with a bunch of friends. Always a good time. Jan, 21 - Sevendust, Ill Nino, Element Eighty (If I can get day off of work) Big Sevendust and Ill Nino fan! I try to check out Sevendust every times they come around this will be number 9. One of the best "shows" around. It's on a Wednesday, so it will be tough getting off of work, but I'll probably work something out. Mar, 16 - Britney Spears (got tix in mail Tuesday!) |

W00T!!!! I just picked up tickets for Opeth in February, I can't fucking wait. Judging by the supporting lineup (DevilDriver and Moonspell), it looks like they're going to be playing some straight Death Metal this time, which will kick ass. It's going to be awesome having seen both their acoustic and metal sets.

DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN (Jan. 20, the Grog Shop, Cleveland, OH with the Locust and Your Enemies' Friends) - Fucking amazing show, Your Enemies' Friends...meh...good sounding band, horrible vocals / the Locust...a half hour of minute long blasts of intense sound, simply amazing / Dillinger Escape Plan...best live band I have ever seen...such powerful music and live show...you can stand in the back of the club, and you'll still be exhausted by the end of their set...do yourself a favor and check them out if you get the chance.
CLUTCH (Feb. 5, Howards Club H, Bowling Green, OH with Mastodon, Nebula, Disrhythmia) - Most profitable concert going experience, EVER. A friend of mine was approached by the guy who booked this show and apparently Clutch needed some people to help unload and reload their equiptment. $40 and a free show, fuck yeah. Now I don't really like Clutch...at all....but Mastodon, Nebula, and Disrhythmia rocked the fucking town. STYLEX (Feb. 13, Howards Club H, Bowling Green, OH with Thunderbirds Are Now) - More or less local show...Stylex from BG and TAN from Detroit...a great night of drinking and Brainiac influenced post-punk. TERMINAL LOVERS (Feb. 14, Howards Club H, Bowling Green, OH with Treysuno and Crown of Thorns) - TL...featuring former members of Guided By Voices, Pere Ubu, and Rocket From the Tombs made sure to bring the rock...and amazing set of balls to the wall rock 'n' roll. Treysuno and Crown of Thorns also brought their A-game...a fun night. THE LAWRENCE ARMS (Mar. 4, Howards Club H, Bowling Green, OH with Cardinal Sin, Treysuno, and BloodDumpster) HAYDEN (Apr. 13, the Magic Bag, Detroit, MI)

I missed Sevendust, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, and Derek Trucks at the 9:30 Club in DC within the past few months. Apparently I'll be missing Opeth when they come to the 9:30 as well in February (I'll be in Europe). Cruel fate...

Feb. 11 Kid Rock at the Toledo Sports Arena. *edit This is actually March 11.
Feb. 22 Puddle of Mud at Headliners in Toledo. Here is what happened at the Feb 22 concert... I was so geeked about this. Now I'm pissed. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs...WS03/102240117 Rock band’s lead singer is arrested for unruliness Wesley Scantlin, lead singer and guitarist with Puddle of Mudd, performs at Headliners before the concert fell apart. ( JOHN STAINBROOK ) Zoom By CHRISTINA HALL BLADE STAFF WRITER The lead singer of the alternative rock band Puddle of Mudd was arrested Sunday night for spitting and throwing a bottle at concert-goers at a North Toledo nightclub and for spitting inside a police car on his way to jail. Wesley Scantlin, 31, of Beverly Hills, Calif., was taken into custody in a dressing room at Headliners, 4500 North Detroit Ave. The band was only 15 minutes into the show at the packed club when the intoxicated singer-guitarist spat, threw the bottle, and used profanity at the audience of more than 1,000, authorities said. After watching Mr. Scantlin’s behavior, undercover state liquor agents decided to arrest him. "We thought we were going to have a riot based on the this guy’s conduct," said Earl Mack, agent in charge of the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s investigative unit in Toledo, who was present. "It could have been a lot worse. I don’t know why the crowd didn’t get out of hand." Concert-goers said audience members were upset, and several began chants to tip the band’s tour bus. "A lot of people were screaming for a refund," Meghan Gallagher said. Mr. Scantlin was booked into the Lucas County jail on charges of disorderly conduct intoxication, misconduct involving a public transportation system, and criminal mischief, all misdemeanor offenses. He was released about 4 a.m. yesterday after posting $150 bond. Jonathan Anderson, a local promoter, said people have requested refunds, and organizers are working with them. However, he said, organizers are trying to get the California band to return for a free show for people with ticket stubs and those without stubs who bought tickets at Boogie Records or were on will-call lists with Ticketmaster. "We’re trying to work it out for the fans," he said. "We’re trying as hard as we can to resolve this issue from both ends." Tiffany Youhanna, tour publicist, said the band’s management is not commenting. The award-winning band was to perform in Cincinnati last night and in Columbus today. It is in the middle of a tour for its second disc, "Life on Display." The CD, released in November, includes the single "Away from Me," which has been atop rock radio charts for two months. Concert-goers said the band only performed a few songs before the outburst. Mr. Scantlin was alone on stage when he spat and cursed at the crowd and threw the bottle. The rest of the band was taking a break off-stage, Mr. Anderson said. He said the audience and the other band members began to realize Mr. Scantlin was drunk just 15 minutes into the show. "The band knew that it was over. [Mr. Scantlin] wasn’t done and brought out his guitar. It started out kind of funny. When the crowd realized the show was over, they got upset," said Jon Stainbrook, a former employee of the county auditor’s office who was covering the concert for Thrasher magazine. Mr. Mack said Mr. Scantlin stumbled when he lifted a guitar over his head. Authorities thought Mr. Scantlin was going to throw the guitar into the crowd but didn’t. The crowd then became hostile and began tossing items, such as beverage cups, onto the stage and shouting at Mr. Scantlin, Mr. Mack said. Nonetheless, Mr. Anderson said he was "utterly surprised and very happy the crowd acted the way they did." Mr. Scantlin continued his behavior inside the city police car that took him to the jail. He spit in the back seat, hitting the ceiling, windows, and security cage. The police car was taken out of service for cleaning. Mr. Mack said authorities arrested seven people for alcohol-related offenses. One was booked into the jail; the others were cited and released. May 21st - Iced Earth with Children of Bodom
The funny thing about Bodom playing the House of Blues Sunset is that the last time they played, my friends and I arrived an hour late, missing half of their set (infernal Hollywood traffic). We figured we'd never see them in the U.S. again. Go figure, they're playing the exact same venue. This time we're going super early, and if time permits us, we'll get something to eat before hand. |
