Pantera...split...
As we all know, pantera is no longer together. I was just wondering who everyone enjoys out of the offshoots, Superjoint Ritual(whom i've not heard yet), Down, or that other band that Vinny and Dime started. will any of them get as big as fat ass Tera!? or will they all fall by the wayside?

- I like Down. All of the songs sound very similar, but they sound good to me.
- Superjoint doesn't do it for me. I don't like the mindless screaming. They're missing the soul and groove Pantera had - Phil is an ass. If you've read any interviews with him, you know what I'm talking about - New Found Power (Vinnie and Dimebag's new group) sounds great. It sounds similar to Pantera minus Phil. |

"Nola" was a good album, and "Stone the Crow" and "Lifer" were excellent tracks, but I'm not too keen on "Down II".
SJR are nothing special. Not bad, but not particularly good either. What little I've heard of New Found Power/Damage Plan, whatever name they eventually settle on, is excellent. Pantera minus Phil, just as Dunkelhelmut said. |

where could i find some new found power/damage plan stuff? i gather they haven't made an official release yet, but are there demos or live tracks floating around? thanks
edit: looks like i spoke before researching well. the band's name is Damageplan and the album is "New Found Power". it'll be released february 10 on elektra records. some low-quality clips are available at www.damageplan.com Last edited by mercury-hg; 12-17-2003 at 01:31 PM.. |

the damage plan album, a nw found power, is out now. has anyone else picked it up? i like it in general, but it's no pantera. darrell's guitar is just as heavy but seems more "sludgy." though this is obviously a deliberate choice, i think it take away from the power and momentum that he can add to a song.

I didn't really like damageplan, maybe 2 songs. The singer is just not Phil, and that's a bad thing.

it baffles me to this day why phil left one of the best heavy metal bands ever to stick with an average at best metal band. anyway, i do like down and damageplan. their new cd is pretty decent from what i've heard except that dime's guitarwork is kinda lacking

I hate what I've heard of Damage Plan. The music is lacking heart and any remote shreds of originality. I hate the singer too. To me, DP sounds like a bunch of riffs that the band turned down when Pantera was still around.
Phil made Pantera what they were. It's no shock that Dime and Vinnie can't do it without him. SJR is descent, Down is great. Phil may be a fucked up junkie, but he writes good music. |
