Whats Your Favorite Christmas Music?

I could not find a thread about this so here goes.

Right now my favorite christmas music is Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Orchestral and choral elements complement the powerful guitar work their is nothing quite like it IMO.

This probably isn't what you mean. . .but I just make mixtapes of christmas songs by all the bands I listen to. There's plenty of good songs, and Christmas only comes once a year, so I can't really enjoy them any other time.

Just isn't Christmas until I've heard Cheech & Chong's "Santa Claus and the Old Lady" or Bob & Doug's "12 Days of Christmas".

Man, Santa Claus isn't a musician.
I'm hip man, that cat didn't know no tunes, man.

No one has mentioned the Merry Axemas albums. Both volumes are extremely cool. For those unfamiliar with the records it's christmas music but with the melodies all played on the guitar (and in one case on bass). In most cases you could describe the songs as your traditional christmas tunes but supercharged through an overdriven amp. Many notable guitar players appear on each volume including Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Joe Perry, Zakk Wylde, Brian Setzer, Eric Johnson, Al Di Meola, Ted Nugent, and others. If you like guitar music than you'd probably like this. Its very cool.

I love them all from the goofy to the sentimental...it is my fave time of the year. I do, though, gravitate toward songs done by the crooners [Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Perry Como, Dean Martin, etc.] since that was what we had going at my house when I was growing up...

Trans-Siberian Orchestra man, just saw them at the Patriot Center last Saturday. They just rock, the really need to come out with a live album tho... I want that Guitar duel between Chris and whoever is the other guitarist and Daryl is singing the blues/jazz notes. The best part about this past live show, they played like thirty seconds of Kashmir and Daryl sang it almost perfectly. Great show, I just love these guys. Can't wait for their Beethoven's Last Night Tour in July of '05, might get some outdoor dates .

Now, I normally despise Christmas music. 4 seasons of retail Christmas will do that.

However, Trans Siberian Orchestra is excellent, Mannheim Steamroller can be excellent, and my dad always plays Handel and Bach all Christmas, so I get used to that.

Given my druthers, though, I'd continue to listen to the same things I listen to all year long. Maybe make sure I get Jethro Tull, "Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow" and "Ring Solstice Bells" on at least once each.

My FAVOURITE Christmas song is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan.

Certain versions of "Do You Hear What I Hear" make me cry..."Pray for peace, people everywhere" TEARS.

Oh, and I love O Holy Night. POWERFUL.

i really like jewel's christmas album. it's kind of jazzy, especially rudolph the red nosed reindeer. cool version.

i also like the very special christmas volumes. proceeds go part to the special olympics. my favorite is volume 3, with the smashing pumpkins song "christmastime"

as far as traditional christmas music, my favorite is silent night and oh holy night.

have to go with almost nothing; would rather hear Puddle of Mudd "She Hates Me" than most christmas music. But the Southpark song "Merry Fucking Christmas" is always good.
edit: have to go with almost nothing......around november/december. There is a fair portion of holiday music (Crosby/Sinatra/swing versions/several others) I enjoy hearing in in the Spring or summer months, but I have a low tolerance for it this time of year.

When I was a little kid I really like "Pat-a-Pan" a lot. I guess I like Christmas songs in minor modes. "Silent Night" is always a good one. As much as I'm not into the religious aspect of Christmas, I'm haunted by it. Those songs still touch a part of me that goes back to childhood.
