Whats your favorite "late night" music?

Once again Im working midnights here at helpdesk and I once again can play whatever music I want when Im not on a call.. I prepared well this time and brought pretty much my entire music collection ala MP3s

Ive flipped through a few CDs and genres and Ive gone back to the old stand by.. Blues And Haikus by Jack Kerouac..

What keeps you up late when you have to (or when you just want to)

Jazz/Swing or Dean Martin, Sinatra, Torme and more in that vein.
Jazz has a wonderful way of fitting every occasion as well with so many sub-genres and decades to choose from.

The Strokes: Room On Fire

Going on for a bit more than a month now and I'm still 100% into it. Especially their newest song with Regina Spektor on it (Modern Girls/Me Me Me/When Dogs Get Embarassed/Whatever they're calling it now).

Beyond this I've been chilling out to:

-Instrumental Beastie Boys (talked about above..)
-Plastikman (Artifact BC) especially when I do something like math homework.
-Any Mushroom Jazz collection (mixes by Mark Farina in SF)

I also have a 11+minute live symphony of Bach's Toccata En Fugue (sp..) and I love the entire development of the piece. I have no idea what kind of stuff he's done before or what he was up against. Can you recomend anything else like this I might like?

One of my favorite albums too. Great late night music for sure. Also The Doors, Sloan, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and Ben Folds [Five] are good at night.

Latenite? Late night is when I pull out the odd stuff. BÖC albums that no one else owns, like Cultosaurus Erectus or Revolution by Night, Live King Crimson, like "Absent Lovers", or Blackmore's Rainbow.

Joss Stone and Norah when I'm feeling really mellow.
Nika Costa is a bit more jazzy and up tempo.

When I'm really out there and just need some music that is all over the place (bits of jazz and skat, blended with growling rock and tons of industrial sizzle), its called Foetus (some of the album names eschew it slightly for a name that contains the word in a phrase). It is a bit out there, even for most, but give it an honest listen and you might be suprised. You might not, but hey, what do you have to lose?

All depends on my mood- something like Pink Floyyd, David Gray, Coldplay, Norah Jones, older Jewel, Jack Johnson, or old jazz/blues when I just want to sit back & relax- but if I'm out to bounce around, it's gotta be some tight (especially local) trance or DrumNBass. I jump on my (cdj)tables when I can.

I have a huge playlist (over 11, songs) so it just depends on my mood, and what strikes my mind at the time.
tonight I will be listening to Firehouse, and the soundtrack to Onagai Teacher (anime).
ELO, journey, kansas, lifehouse, dream theater, and Live all get some major play too.

The later it gets, the harder the music gets. I start with something comparatively light like Metallica, then move toward death metal as it gets later. I can fall asleep listening to old In Flames.

After the sun goes down, I just don't seem to be in the mood for everything I listen to during the day.

Actually, they're called simply "fly pan am". I've seen them live and own a few of their albums. They are indeed very good.

Both GY!BE and FPA release their music on Constellation Records, a great label from Montreal that also puts out Hangedup, Exhaust, A Silver Mt. Zion, Do Make Say Think (before they broke up), 1-Speed Bike and a few others. All kick-ass stuff for late nights.
