Charlie Hunter
Anybody here listen to Charlie Hunter? Those of you who are guitarists, you would definitely dig him. He's a contemporary jazz player and plays an 8 string guitar. Top three strings are bass strings. The bottom five are guitar strings. He plays the bass with his thumb, the guitar with his pinky, ring and middle, and the index finger kinda alternates between bass and guitar. He can solo on the guitar while handing down a consistent bass line at the same time. It has to be seen to be believed.
I saw him in concert last night with a saxophonist and drummer. It was an extremely funky night. This guy just kicks ass. I highly recommend his albums Bing, Bing, Bing! and his new one, Right Now Move. Check out those links for a few samples, if you dig him, let me know what you think. I think he brings a great young vibe to modern jazz.

I "discovered" him by way of the stuff he did with Medeski, Martin, & Wood. I like him too. If I remember right he's also done some stuff with Les Claypool.
I'm not a big jazz fan, but I've liked some of what I've heard. |

Just listening to some of those clips now. He's clearly a very talented musician. I might not buy his album, but I think I'd definitely go and see him if I had the chance. I was a bit Skeptical about the choice of 'Come as You Are' as a standard, it seems quite a limited theme to improvise around, rock classic or no, but he seems to pull it off.
Just started listening to bullethead now. Rethinking my claim that I wouldn't buy the album. The sax player's pretty good too.
