Drum and Bass
Any dnb heads around here? It is by far my favorite genre. I play it, love it, and live it. just wondering if there was anyone else on here that has an interest...
|
I want to get into it, but cant really find any bands that are just that. I know Lightening Bolt is mostly dnb, but i'm not sure about it all. COuld you give some names of people to check out?
|
I have been spinning drum and bass on the side for a couple years. I have made about two or three danb tracks but havent released them. I listen to jungle and ambient drumnbass alot but havent heard anything exciting since this damn deep dark and mysterious shit has been going around

I've been listening and spinning DnB for a few years. More into the old skool ragga sound, and newer domestic sound(I.E. n2o Records). The whole tech step thing is a bit boring and repetitive for me after a while. I really love the nasty mash up sounds though :)
|
I know Aphex Twin and Massive Attack play derivatives of dNb and I LOVE those two groups... not really sure what PURE dNb is though, seems like EVERYTHING is a derivative now.

Although I do like mellow drum N bass with some atmospheric sounds...And a touch of darkness added into it. Josh_so8 I will give ya a few names, Not sure if this is the style your looking for...But check it out anyways, You will probably like what you hear if your lookin to get into the scene. You may only find a small selection on music sites, All the good shit you can't find it anywhere to download it. I just go to the record shops and buy CD's or Mix Tapes...That is your best bet, Go to the local record shops and they should have a selection to choose from...Or try HMV, They will have a small selection of Jungle/Drum n Bass. Here are a few DJ's/Producers Total Science Dillinga - All Aboard <~~ Awsome Track Ed Rush & Optical - The Shining, Zoner, Pac Man...almost anything from these 2 guys is awsome. Andy C - Skirmish Feat. Mampi Swift....I think. GrooveRider Shy FX John B - Up All Night Bad Company - Colonies, The Nine, Son Of Nitrous, Spacehopper, Breathe, Navajo. Aphrodite J Majik - The Lizard Klute Usual Suspects Goldie Ray Kieth - Chopper, Original & Remixes, Something Out There. Kenny Ken - Footloose DJ Brockie DJ Rap DJ Freedom DJ Hype - Peace Love & Unity Roni Size Moving Fusion - Turbulence Hatiras - Spaced Invader Alpha Omega - Klash Look for some of that...I'm not sure how much you will find..But you should find some of it. Some of the DJ's..I couldn't think of anything from them off the top of my head...It's hard remembering the name of Jungle tracks. I am not into much of the domestic DJ's, But check out AK1200's new CD "At Close Range" One of the best CD's I have ever heard him put out. Great track selection. He is a american DJ..You can pick it up at HMV. Hope it helps |
bnb is the shit ..
im really into ltj bukem , bes, and trans am |
sometimes when the brother in law and myself are jammin' downstairs......he just puts the guitar down and grabs the bass and we start rippin' the place up.

LTJ is very good stuff. Pretty much anything good looking records puts out I like. Mokoto's new progression sessions is VERY good. as far as where to find dnb check http://www.dogsonacid.com or http://www.mw-dnb.com you can download a ton of mixsets and tunes from there... plus theres internet radio 24/7 and its live every tuesday night (I play most tuesdays) |
I was into DnB big time a few years back, especially darkstep/techstep (as both a producer and a listener) - but I'm kinda sick of those genres now and it takes a very innovative song to hold my attention. Haven't really checked the DnB scene in a while, but I know there's some good music out there.

^^ by mellow do you mean the atmospheric stuff? or mellow as in jazzy? Check out London Elektricity for jazzy. actually look for most anything on the Hospital Label or artists that have released tunes on it.
Good Looking Records (Which LTJ Bukem is on) is also mostly mellower stuff. |

I have one of LTJ Bukems CD's..It's pretty good. |

yeah I enjoy a good dnb set every once in a while but im more into the house, trance, hhc, etc stuff. But I just cant resist the deep dark bassline from some good dnb. Specially when its being played through a nice jbl system that just way too large for the small vibey venu. But yeah down here in eugene it seems like we are getting invaded by more and more seattle kids wanting to spread the scene that is junglists. Btw what do you guys think about the seattle dj aaron simpson switching from trance to dnb?
|
I'm a fan of DJ Shadow as of late. Especially Fixed Income and Midnight In A Perfect World.
The songs are very mellow, upbeat and beautiful. It doesn't so much get you dancing as it does enlighten you ;-) |
i just got into this siberian ambiant drum and bass duo
Stereo modus... it is sum of the greatest music i have ever heard do all of yourselves a favour and check out Stereo Modus - ex tempore |
I have been droppin Jungle rekkids for about 2 years...yeah im definately into the old school Ragga and Hardcore...some of the new tech step and dark stuff is alright..I dont think it has any feeling compared to the Ragga though...new d@b just sounds angry and if I wanted that i would listen to some Metal or something to that effect.....
Dj hype Dj SS Aphrodite Future cut Mickey Finn Tech itch Ed ruch, Optical Phantom 45 Dillinja Ray keith Kenny Ken Soulslinger Yellow note Hive Ltj bukem Orca Future sound of Hardcore...to name a few |

I h ave enjoyed D n B for about 4 years a good guide is stuff from good looking records
LTJ label with stars like blame, they are chillin now with such things as cookin records more relaxed. Roni size DJ die True playez Alex Reece - we call this style intelligent Dn B although I am sure some one will correct the genre - old skool goodlookingrecords.com I do get feed up with the bad boyz of DnB who take themselves to seriously. |
skip the link they have killed their web site it is now a mail front
|
I cant believe I forgot CONGO NATTY!!!!...how silly of me....
|
Photek is one of favs. Modus Operandi is an album you should check out. Solaris is another one, even it has some pop songs on it.
|
...all I can say is:
Find yourself a few of the albums by LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad. Start with the progression sessions (preferably cronologicially) 1-7, then go the the Logical Progression. Then.. ..try Earth Volumes 1,2,3... Then go for some live shows from the Ministry of Sound, MixMag, etc. If you're really daring, try to find the Okenfold v. Bukem live show. I can only say this, I have been entranced by LTJ Bukem, I have found so much depth, creativity and style with this guy, and MC Conrad has some of the most emotional vocals.. ..magic stuff. This music can be whatever you want it to be, Ambient, Hard, progressive. Just by merely changing the volume it is played at and the amount of low (sub 500Hz) tones that you chose to attinuate/excentuate you can bring out the mood. Any other Bukem fans? -SF Wanted to add: Look for anything by the "Good Looking Organization, GLO" they have a great deal of DnB, Ambient and the like. |
I saw Bukem and Makoto in portland last year.. awesome stuff.
it inspired my set for DnB thats up on my site. I dont like to advertise unwarrented really so if you would like to hear a really good mix that I made, please PM me and I will tell you the set name (since the website url is in my profile i think...) |
Bukem and Mokoto both had new ones out this year, both EXTREMELY good mix sets.
Are there any fans of Autechre here? |
misposted, please delete
|
For some easy-entry DnB, I would recommend Goldie's Timeless CD. Classic!
|
I'm in London for three months and they seem to play it in clubs here like Techno and House is in San Francisco!
Seen a bunch of amazing dj's so far -Andy C -Dj Hype -Kenny Ken (my fav) |
Well, I am not a so-called DnB head, cuz I like so many different genres, but I do really enjoy it, especially the local scene (AKA 360 Crew/DasBeben) for keepin it alive and bouncin. My husband & I go to a DnB show the reoccurs every month and I love the vibe and intimacy of it.
