RADIO
I've never been a big listener to the radio. My tastes have always been too far off the beaten path.
That is until I got turned onto WFMU Freeform Radio via the internet. Sadly i can't listen to this unless there is a computer nearby. So does your city have a good radio station that plays anything other than top 40? Kansas City is an armpit for radio. We are saturated with 80s hair rock, top 40 and country, we have 2 small public stations that offer alternatives but they are only listenable for me a 3 hours a week. |

Here in Southern Indiana/Louisville, for a while we had the endangered species that is a non-sellout Commercial Radio station, LRS 102 The Walrus. While they played commercials, they were locally owned/ran, played a great and diverse playlist of modern rock, not just stuff "programmed" to generate the maximum number of 18-49 male listeners for ad revenue. They played local bands, sponsored local shows. But then they did sell out to Clear Channel... they're still around, but it's the familiar "same 50 songs over and over" playlist, nothing terribly unique to it.
I guess the only decent station left is 91.9 FM Jazz and adult alternative. Lots of good stuff... no commercials, plus they air "Le Show" with Harry Shearer. Last edited by rock_bottom; 04-24-2003 at 02:28 PM.. |

KCRW, which is our local NPR affiliate. I'm a huge fan of it, as they play rock, new music, dance, urban beats, and a healty dose of singer/songwriters.

With the exception of the Bob & Brian morning show from Milwaukee, radio in Wisconsin sucks. WAPL used to be good, they they were sold, now they play crap.

Here in PA we have a good 80's radio station. 95.5 "The Point"
I like 80's music a lot, so I also like this radio station a lot.

And I do believe 93.3 "The Mix" is just about the worst station ever created. They'll overplay anything that was popular a couple of months ago. Ick. -D.S. |

YOu guys from KC.. what ever happened to that station out of lawrence? Maybe 105.* I forget, I haven't heard anything good out of there in several years, but I remember I used to be able to (note: I don't live around KC but aunt and grandparents do so on the way up there when I got close to KC I'd try that station).
You'd think that with KU so close and KC being of decent size there would be some good music around. |
