Any good tracks? What other material of theirs should we compare it to? If we like (other band) would we like Alkaline Trio?

I have all their stuff, and just like their previous release (From Here to Infirmary) I did not get too excited over it the first time I heard it, but just like FHtI, on repeated listens I am liking it more and more. IMO their best effort was 'Goddamnit.'
The first single, and one of the best tracks is "This Could Be Love." If you like NOFX, Less Than Jake, New Found Glory, Samiam, Hot Water Music, you might like them. Pretty witty writing that seems to have alcohol as a common theme. There's a home video coming out late in July, I think too... |

ehhhh, that could go either way. People who enjoy more of a pop-punk sound would definitley like them, but for the more "hardcore"(?) punk rocker, then this is probably worth skipping over. Not their best work by far in my opinion. |

I disagree with most everything said in this topic. Alkaline Trio is not pop-punk, they are on the border of emo and punk. The lyrics on "Good Mourning", as well as all of their other albums, are pure genius. There is not a song on their new cd that I don't love. It is their best album since "From Here to Infirmary". I recently saw them live and they were amazing to say the least. As far as similar sounds, I can't think of any, which is good. Anyone who has yet to be turned on to Alkaline Trio should really check them out.

I absolutely love this CD. I think Emma and Every Thug Needs A Lady are the best songs. The best CD they have in my opinion is Maybe I'll Catch Fire. It is just amazing. Any song sung by Dan Andriano has to be one of my favorites. As for the alcohol content, I think there is only one mention of it in the new CD and that is a reference to an "alcohol IV". This probably has something to do with Matt Skiba not being able to drink anymore, doctor's orders. This thread has been my favorite yet.

Hambone - Have you heard the recent Mike Felumlee solo release (64 hours) - what do you think? As much of a fan of AT as I am, I cannot get into that album in the least and it is down there in my 'hours in the CD player' list next to Gwar and Lawnmower Deth.

oh god there horrible. I friend of mine is friends with one of them and has a video of them playing there back yard before the real video of them playing in there back yard came out. They used to be huge punks, or dress like huge punks, and act all hardcore all the tiem, but then didnt even like the music, they start up and play there particularly crappy brand of emo and sell out to the record company like most emo bands do, and then people fall for the act and buy thier cds.

I don't like Alkaline Trio either... I think they're INCREDIBLY overrated for playing music that's just about exactly the same as a trillion other bands out there. That whole "emo" genre annoys me, there's only a few bands out of it that I can so much as tolerate (Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Finch, and older Weezer (newer stuff is mediocre but still OK) come to mind).
