What was #1 on the day you were born
Some people believe our lives are profoundly influenced by whatever pop song was #1 on the day we were born.
On the day Barack Obama was born it was Tossin’ And Turnin’ by Bobby Lewis George W. Bush had The Gypsy by The Ink Spots Bill Clinton - To Each His Own - Eddy Howard Hillary Clinton - Near You - Francis Craig On the day Heather Mills (ex Mrs McCartney) was born The Beatles were at #1 with Hello Goodbye! See which songs you get This day in Music |
Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
p.s. I don't think it influenced my life ;) |

For me, it was Mrs. Robinson - Simon and Garfunkel. 0 was a hell of a good age to be. Are you trying to seduce me, plastic nipple? |
I believe this thread is already in existence, perhaps somewhere in Nonsense, since I of course wouldn't recognize the Pop#1 song of some 20-40 odd years unless I already did this.
Also, it is quite interesting to note that the OP mentioned a few examples of Presidents'(past, present, and would-be) and here we have the first three responses from residents of and around Washington D.C. ... quite eerie to say the least. |
Amanda- Boston
I dig that song.... |
Stayin' Alive - The Bee Gees
Didn't influence me, but makes me smile and dance when I hear it. |
You Light Up My Life - Debbie Boone
Wow, that is antithesis of me. I don't do soft and fuzzy, or bright and cheery. Damn the 70's. |
Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire in the US
Make It Easy on Yourself by The Walker Brothers in the UK Que Sera Sera by Normie Rowe & the Playboys in Australia I knew about Eve of Destruction and I have the song in my collection, but what's really weird is I had no idea about the UK & Australia songs and I happen to have both of those, too...and they're pretty obscure. |
Some crappy Whitney Houston song was #1 on my date of birth. Too bad, I was hoping for something cool.
|
Call Me - Blondie (US)
Working My Way Back To You - The Detroit Spinners (UK) Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen (AUS) Waaaaaaaa - Me (Beirut, hospital) |

This Guy’s In Love With You - Herb Alpert -- US Charts Not bad... Jumping Jack Flash - The Rolling Stones -- UK Who the hell left my cake out in the rain!? Macarthur Park - Richard Harris -- Australia I guess there is a reason I always felt comfortable in the UK. |
All I get is...
The first 'Pop Goes The Beatles' program was aired on the BBC in the UK. The band played a version of 'Pop Goes The Weasel' on the show. |

In the UK it was Red Red Wine by UB40 And in Oz it was Australiana by Austen Tayshus Thanks, Flashdance. |
Starship - We Built This City
|
Respect by Aretha in the US
Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum in the UK So I was born with 2 great songs at #1. But the trifecta of 3 greats was broken by Australia with some fucked up song I have never heard of and it was #1 by 2 different people at once.... This Is My Song - Petula Clark and This Is My Song - Harry Secombe, (both versions of the song were at No.1). On my Date of recovery.... March 20th 1999 Cher with Believe Very interesting and appropriate for me that would be #1 in the US When The Going Gets Tough - Boyzone in the UK .... again very appropriate for me on that day But again Australia fucks up the trifecta with Britney Spears' Baby One More Time This just proves to me that while it maybe beautiful and have exotic animals.... the people in the land down under listen to fucked up music and are somewhat insane. |
U.S. Charts
Kiss You All Over - Exile Canadian Charts Whenever I Call You "Friend" - Kenny Loggins - U.K. Charts Summer Nights - John Travolta & Olivia Newton John |

What was #1 on the day I was born?
Here's a hint: |
"Every Breath You Take" by Sting and the Police.
Great song by a great group. The song ranks #84 on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. |
US - Southern Nights - Glen Campbell
I know of the artist of course, but nothing of the song UK: Knowing Me Knowing You - Abba Getting better at least AUS: Don't Give Up On Us - David Soul No bloody clue there my musical tastes tend to run 70-30 before I was born, but I do enjoy a decent slice of the 80's and 90's as well. |
